List of ideas for making EE a bit better

Since we have a new owner I thought I'd share my thoughts on what should be added to EE. Most of these are old ideas, but this is a more organized way of presenting them.

1. Allow players to create better worlds

▼General

Simplicity
EE should be as simple as it is now for new players, but it should also allow more freedom for those who want to create more complex worlds. So it should be very simple and easy to use, but have more advanced features "hidden". I'm not saying that the advanced features should be difficult to find or use, but they shouldn't ruin the basic idea of EE: Pick a block and place it.

Shop and items
I think most blocks should be either free or super cheap. Smileys, auras, etc. should still be in the shop. I'm not sure about worlds, but they could be cheaper too. We shouldn't limit the creativity of those who are willing to build worlds in this game.

Tools
Editing tools would make building a lot easier and faster. These would include the basic photoshop tools:
- Basic/Pencil tool
- Fill tool
- Line tool
- Selection tool
- Copy/Cut/Paste ability

Fixing morphable blocks
Using morphable blocks is pretty slow right now. If you want to make a line of rotated spikes, you need to draw the whole line multiple times.
There might be other stuff like this that could be fixed to make building faster, but I can't think of any right now...

Music
Not sure how well it would work on EE, but I think music adds a lot of depth and feeling to games.
It could either be a premade selection of songs, or people could make their own music.

▼Gameplay

Moving blocks
Moving stuff is one of the most important things that needs to be added to EE imo. There's so much interesting gameplay that could be made with these. It's a bit difficult to add that in any simple way however.
Being able to make any block or a small selection of blocks move would give us so many new possibilities!

Better way of creating systems
People have made a lot of switch based systems that have made the gameplay a lot more interesting. I think there should be a better way of creating these kinds of systems than switches. Some sort of mini system programming thing inside EE? Special kind of system blocks? Anything that works!

More multiplayer elements
Global switches were a good idea, but they are still buggy and pretty much the same as when they were introduced. EE is a multiplayer game, and it's what brings the most fun to this game. Let players compete with each other, help each other and just interact with each other while playing. Here are some multiplayer ideas:
- Race/Contest effect. Actually it doesn't even need to be an effect if it's somehow built into worlds
- Fix global switch bugs and add more features to them, for example the ability to reset them when the person who hit them leaves
- Doors that open with X players

Other action stuff
- Darkness
- Moving hazards/enemies
- Text

▼(Ingame) Art

Custom colour blocks/bg
The ability to choose custom colours for some basic blocks and backgrounds would make a huge difference in art. Right now it's rather difficult to come up with your own style for worlds, because there are only so many blocks and even less combinations that look good. With custom colour flat backgrounds you can basically create any kind of backgrounds you want. Same goes for some custom coloured blocks

Effects
Visual effects like:
- Rain
- Night/Darkness
- Falling snow

General problem with EE art
It's rather difficult to make EE worlds look good without them being overly simple. An usual EE world looks quite messy compared to any platformer game. I think this is because the block packs we have are made for specific purposes and don't go too well together. There are very few blocks that look nice if you fill a large area with them.

I'm not quite sure how to fix this, but adding more general blocks could help. General shapes and textures with custom colours would probably work quite well.

2. Make creating and playing more fun and rewarding

Leaderboards
Leaderboards makes playing more fun, as players will be able to compete with each other. Bobithan's suggestion pretty much sums it up.

A reason to build worlds
To motivate people to build good worlds, there should be more rewards for builders. There could be more smaller contests, featured worlds and such. Builders could get some sort of badges to their profile when their world wins/gets featured. Just something to make them feel special, because that motivates.

Make finding worlds easier
Right now you can only access certain worlds from the lobby. You need to go through profiles or the forums for more, and it can be quite difficult to find the good stuff. There should be a big list of featured worlds and builders, which would make finding good worlds easier.

There should also be world tags for finding certain type of worlds. (For example puzzle worlds or adventure worlds)

Users should have an option to "publish" their worlds, and those worlds would have their own tab on profiles and the lobby.

I think most of these ideas are good, but as you had a lot of suggestions so I wont reply to them all, just the ones that I disagree with / think could be changed etc.

▼Shop and items

Although yes, having to buy things is sometimes annoying, there are a few reasons why its good to have an energy system:
1. It brings people back to the game once a day or two so they can spend their energy, which means people are less likely to forget about it
2. It means that the people that dont want to wait for energy can pay for it instead, which supports the game and allows it to stay online
3. It means that the game is less confusing for new players, as they only need to learn a small selection of the blocks, and can slowly learn more as they continue to play and unlock more

▼Music

Not sure how well it would work on EE, but I think music adds a lot of depth and feeling to games.

Although im not actively against it, I don't think that music would really fit EE at the moment... Maybe something to think about later in the reboot or whatever

Although I dont really agree with creating something that replaces switches, or adding programmable blocks that do arbitrary things, I do agree that it would be good if there was some sort of bot integration, possibly something you could buy with gems (a few good ideas have been suggested before, my favourite being a scratch-like editor (discussed here), as that solves a lot of the problems with adding something like this)

IMO it would be better to have a few blocks with more basic functions that could then be used together instead of single blocks that do what youve suggested above as this would let you be more creative with how you use them, and probably make it simpler to understand as well
E.g. If we had a 'time' effect and doors then you could build a race from a combination of those and normal switches / teams, or if we had some way to reliably get a single player (e.g. with 'flags' which Ive suggested before here / here)

When it comes to these sort of things, I think its important to keep the feel of the game, and not add anything too out of place...
Darkness would probably be alright if it was done well, and text would be good if it wasnt so laggy / didnt look so buggy (maybe have letter blocks instead?), but I dont really think moving blocks would fit in

The problem with this one is that it removes the need for a lot of the creativity you currently need to build worlds, which IMO might make it a lot more boring...

Yet again we near the boundary of what would fit in and what wouldn't... EE has a sort of charm that has slowly diminished from what it was before, so I think we should be extra careful not to damage that further

no, it's not EEditor

people use eeditor to build worlds considerably more often than using the actual client for stuff like that. if it was built in we wouldnt need to rely on a bot and world building wouldnt be as tedious

i think moving blocks would be interesting. Maybe something like a push able block on a set out path.

and maybe said block could be set to move automatically as well as manual.

the blocks needed would probably be something like:

• the push-able block

• horizontal path

• vertical path

• corner paths

• a cross over path - like a + but you can not change from vertical to horizontal.

• a + path

• a T path - both up and down.

and a menu to dictate if the block is a manual push or automatic.
