Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

World leaderboards

Alright, so, with EE potentially reaching out to a larger audience with the move to Unity, it would be a good thing for EE to start specializing in what it's good at. One of those things is platforming, and there is a large hardcore platforming scene that would likely fall in love with Everybody Edits for its user created precision platforming. However, though everything already exists to make challenges for a user to play through, what EE lacks is that competition between users in normal non-bot-assisted worlds. Sure, you can go ahead and complete that world and feel good about it, but there's no competition. To fill that gap, I would suggest there to be an option to enable leaderboards in your completed worlds for players to compete on.

These leaderboards could be able to track different things for different playstyles and different kinds of worlds.

1. Time
This would record the amount of time from the first move you make after joining the world to when you touch the trophy. Would also come with a /restart command for people trying to run the world, putting them back to spawn and resetting their clock and actions in the world.

2. Deaths
This would record the amount of times a player dies before hitting the trophy.

3. Gold coins collected
This would record the number of gold coins a user collects before hitting the trophy. This one in particular would have the option to switch to "least coins collected", as there are several worlds that have been made (and can be made) where the goal is to collect as few coins as possible.

4. Blue coins collected
Same as gold coins.

World owners would be able to toggle which leaderboards to enable.

When leaderboards are enabled, upon world completion, when a user hits a trophy, instead of just "USER has completed the world!", it could say "USER has completed the world in 1:23.45!" or "USER has completed the world with only 123 deaths!" or even a combination of several.

Badges could be featured on user profiles for records they have in certain worlds. Like "Helvi has the #1 time in Mount Uonegatscil, beating it in 2:55.04!"

I really feel like this would add a whole new meaning to creating and beating worlds in EE, and it would definitely be a change that would set Everybody Edits away from just a simple sandbox. There would be a new motivation for people new and old to the game to play and create worlds.

Re: World leaderboards

I agree, competitiveness would attract more players.
My only concern is, would it attract kinds of players that the community wouldn't want to attract? (If you know what I mean.)

Despite what people say, Different55 is the best mod.

I don't exactly know what you mean actually //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue
You mean like toxicity when it comes to direct competition, like in FPS games? I don't think that would come into play all too much since the competition between players would span large amounts of time, high scores only sometimes being beaten for the more popular worlds.

Re: World leaderboards

Even though you can do this with bots, it would be nice to not have a bot in every world.

Re: World leaderboards

I think toxicity comes mainly in games relying on teamwork, which EE doesn't have in most levels.

Re: World leaderboards

I think this will dramatically expand upon the 'anti-cheating' process which is just a huge hassle and downside.

Re: World leaderboards

Which is an issue in pretty much every single game with leaderboards already, but that doesn't dissuade many from making leaderboards for their games anyways. Even if these leaderboards were just added to campaign worlds, which already have an alright anti-cheat system, that would be a huge step forward for the game.

Re: World leaderboards

I viewed the server source code. The anti-cheat system implemented is primitive and isn't hard to evade, and it won't ever be hard to evade, stating otherwise would just be wishful thinking.

If world leaderboards were to be added, they shouldn't be official in any way nor given any value.
They could go the Roblox approach and only allow badges for paying members.
