Yes. Though due to how different they're planned to look, normal auras can have multiple colours without making it seem like they're staff auras. Need to give one of the staff roles this colour

I'm posting this on a laggy laptop that can barely scroll through Discord.
And without giving spoilers, we do actually have plans for how to better present the shop without it limiting the content you can add to the game.
Modern game design is very effective at having a lot of cosmetics and buyable things without it being overwhelming. The key difference with EE! is that there is a certain leap between cosmetics and game features. It's all about presenting those game features in a way that is friendly to use and learn.
Having it all unlockable immediately with a huge choice on where to start was basically the opposite of friendly. The Mr Shoe era tried to solve the problem with the levels system which didn't quite work but at least they recognised something needed to be done about the rate of progression.
Many of the issues you see with EE aren't ones only yo see. Mutant has played EE for a long time. I played it since 2010. There's lots of people in our team that have played EE for a long time. We aren't ignorant to the issues the game had, and we are striving to solve them.
My aim when writing the design doc for EE! was to, first and foremost, address major issues that bothered me about EE and EEU. And then, the second step was to naturally evolve the game. What are some neat things about EE and how can we make them better. Fixel's personal favourite was switches and seeing how people created unique minigames inside of EE using them, so he sought to evolve those. I can't spoil exactly all the new features, as that would ruin the surprise, but there are plenty of things we've addressed, and many ways we evolved gameplay.
As mentioned, the shop system bothered me. The unfriendly UI (especially in later years of EE's life) bothered me. I didn't like how currency worked in EEU, and some of the plans that were in store for it.
Many action blocks that are reskinned and crowd up the UI, and lacking some more diverse action blocks.
Especially towards later years of EE's life, how username colours and user rankings were handled.
A lack of accessible editing features (you can only place 1 block at a time)-- no fills, or shapes, or other things that were present in 3rd party editors, which made making large-scope worlds on my own a bit intimidating without the use of tools. Makes certain tasks time consuming.
Occasional massive lag spikes making precision difficult, the overall insecure nature of EE, a frankly odd messaging system and friends system

In EEU these are denoted as just icons, which I was also against. In EE, having so many username colours (thx Patreon) removed substantial impact from staff colours. Also, the fact that it was hard to tell if someone is a staff when you aren't already aware of who the mod team or dev team is when there were tons of colours everywhere

But to me personally, the biggest thing that bothered me was the overwhelming UI in both shop and world editing. Made it hard to find what I want, specifically. Also the smiley menu, when you own a ton it becomes really stressful.
honestly idk what you could do about that, the UI was pretty streamlined so other than reducing the number of smileys I don't see how you could improve it
like, there were a lot of buttons so it was reasonably difficult to find the smiley you wanted, but IMO adding a massive menu would complicate things more
There are definitely many ways to improve upon the design, something our UI artist's tasked with.
Our shop system is more, uh, not aggressive / crowded.

I am very torn on the resolution that looks best for lighting... Whether it should be totally a butter smooth gradient from fully lit to shadow, or if it should be a bit pixelated with more drastic changes in lighting. Buuut I guess that's also something only feedback will help with!
Making it configurable to disable ambient lighting could lead to some interesting gameplay, but we will have to see if that fits EE
