Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

#1 Re: World Creation » [Challenge] Flight Gate » 2015-06-12 06:07:15

Thanks so much for this thread. I was trying to figure something like this out for one of my flight minigames. What I ended up doing was loosely based on Pingohits' gate, but horizontal instead of vertical, which required a few extra workarounds. If you're curious, here's the world: http://everybodyedits.com/games/PWJELAOYYQbkI

Using switches in this way only works in very specific circumstances.

How common of a problem is this, exactly? I rarely see that happening.

Anyway, it sounds okay to me as long as it's visible from the lobby so I can know not to waste my time entering your world.

I don't know why you thought it would be otherwise. If you buy timer doors and gates, you don't get 10 gates and 10 doors. If you buy switch doors/gates, you don't get 10 for every single number you can set them to.

#5 Re: Game Suggestions » code switches and code blocks » 2015-04-21 01:22:42

Seems like a good idea for adding a "save" feature to your levels.

It would be cool to see someday, but would take a lot of coding. There are more important things to be added that would be a lot easier to do

Basically, give all keys an adjustable timer so that players can set how long they open doors of that color. The keys should work for between 0 and 9 seconds. The most recent key touched overrides the previous. If you touch red key set for five seconds and then touch a red key set for one second, it will decrease the time until that key resets to 1. Pressing 0 keys automatically close the doors.

But lava kills you.

No... Lava assigns a fire aura to the player who touches it that is removed when the player dies or touches water, and a kill timer that kills you in 3 seconds unless you die or touch water. Lava is actually more complex than your average potion is, and if it can be done as a block, so could double jumping.

Or... You just put a switch underneath your spawn points.

#11 Re: Game Suggestions » Life » 2015-03-13 00:17:58

Personally, I'd prefer a straight reset over subtraction, but wouldn't complain about both. I definitely think we need something like this. I bought death doors when they first came out, but have no idea what to do with them. Right now, they are not the most puzzle friendly invention.

#12 Re: Game Suggestions » New Action Blocks. (Please, look this). » 2015-03-05 23:58:42

When you enter freeze arrows/dots, they should freeze you for one second. At the end of the second, you can move again. Each freeze arrow/dot you touch will renew the second so it will be impossible to move unless you go an entire second without touching a new freeze block. It accomplishes the original goal, but also allows more potential for puzzle design and makes it harder for them to be used as hazards.

Also, I think we would need down freeze arrows.

As for the other ideas:

Slow arrows are alright. I'd definitely like the slow dots, as it's hard to control your movement with the existing dots.

The friend spawn might be useful, I guess, but I'm not wild about the edit block. I can see a lot of players using that as a reward for their level and getting it trolled.

If you want the crown doors, you can vote for them here: https://trello.com/c/YLAsd9Tm/95-crown-gates-doors
Personally, I really want them to be added for King of The Hill type games, where one person grabs the crown and tries to maintain it as long as they can.

Instant doors, however, I don't think are really necessary. Just place a purple door behind a switch and one-way block in front of it, and then the switch won't be usable anymore.

And I'm not really interested in getting a new type of coin. Blue and gold are enough for now.

#14 Game Suggestions » Open World "Theme Packs" » 2015-03-02 00:56:14

Let’s talk about a few problems with open worlds for a minute:

1. They’re boring. You have generic bricks, and you have gravity. And now, for some reason, you have invisible gravity. Because clearly, the most important thing in a mode where everyone has edit powers and nobody has god mode is the addition of an invisible way of throwing people into the air.

2. There’s no way easy to fix this without making things even worse. Look. Even the invisible gravity managed to do this. And adding things like boosters is even worse. This means a lot of the more fun action blocks are off limits unless you want them to be abused. No boosters, no portals, no spikes. No matter what, without the ability to choose what blocks are available and what blocks aren't, you're going to have a lot of angry fans. Maybe some keys and switches would be alright, but it would be kind of silly for someone to look around for switch 13 when they can just delete the door and place a new one in its place when they come through.

3. There’s no soul. Every open world is exactly like all the others, none of the bricks are visually pleasing and the background is a lifeless grey. There’s just nothing attractive about them.

4. This really shouldn’t be the case. Everybody Edits is intended to be a multiplayer level editor. Yet the mode that’s designed to combine level editing with gameplay is incredibly barren. The rest of the game kept evolving, but open worlds were mysteriously forgotten on the sidelines. And that’s sad because Open Worlds have a lot of untapped potential. That’s where the Theme Packs come in.

What are Theme Packs?

Basically, these are block packages purchased specifically for open worlds. Each Theme Pack will contain a number of blocks from different packages, including at least a couple special blocks. For example, a ninja Theme Pack might contain all of the ninja blocks and decorations, as well as the hidden, secret and invisible blocks, and maybe even some fog decorations. A space package could contain the mars blocks, the space shuttle and the invisible gravity. Or, a jungle Theme Pack could contain all the jungle blocks, ruins and the swamp.

Upon starting an open world, in addition to naming it, you get to choose up to three Theme Packs to apply to the level. Among these is a “primary” Theme Pack which dictates the default background for the world (other backgrounds can be added manually in places, but when they’re erased, the background will return to the default instead of the boring grey). Anyone in the world can use any of the blocks, decorations or backgrounds there. Only the creator of the world needs to own the Theme Packs.

There would be a basic Theme Pack, of course, that would include all the blocks that are already available in open worlds and players would start out with. The exception being the gravity blocks, which would be available in every open world, regardless of Themes. Additionally, this Basic Pack would also include one-way blocks.

Additional ideas:

Player Portals: Portals for open worlds could be included in certain Theme Packs. Rather than have values to be set, each player would have two portals to place (One the normal blue and one orange) that transport players between them. Whenever a player places a new portal of that color, the old portal disappears.

Phantom Boosters: These are white boosters that don’t do anything. In five seconds, they become normal boosters. The reason for this is that the normal boosters can be used by trolls to shoot away other players. The Phantom Boosters are the fix for this as, if they’re placed on a player, they could be deleted before they become active.

Also, if you like this idea, please vote it up on the Trello: https://trello.com/c/4CMOhjro/54-open-world-theme-packs

#15 Re: Game Suggestions » Bring back email verified chat » 2015-02-27 01:09:14

Yeah. For some reason, I couldn't sign up on my computer. I ended up doing it on a library computer right before the chat system was brought back.

And, quite honestly, there's no point in it. There are hundreds of games across the net with chat, and twice that many forums and comment sections. Even if an email verification would work (it wouldn't), that wouldn't fix the problem with the rest of the net. And if you can't constantly supervise your child while they're playing EE to know they're not talking to someone they shouldn't be or giving out private information, then you can't supervise them to know that they aren't in any of the millions of other places on the Net where they can chat.

Great idea. To expand more on the quest concept, there should also be an invisible event trigger block that spawns a coin next to NPCs when you have completed a quest. Then you can simply look at your coin total to find out how many quests you have completed already, out of the total amount of quests. Perhaps you can also receive single blocks (or action tiles) as a reward from quests to be put in some sort of game inventory. If what you want the individual NPCs to say is too long to fit the caption box, create directional arrows to advance through the text or even set the event trigger block to switch to different dialogue once you completed one of the NPCs quests.

A good idea, but probably too complicated at the moment. At the moment, this can be done through a combination of switches and invisible portals. (In the past, coin doors were used, but that forces you to do the quests in a specific order. I expect that with the existence of numbered switches, a lot of people are going to be using them instead.)

The tiles... I don't know how that would work in game. While not exactly the same, you can use the switches for similar purposes (blocking off certain areas until a specific quest is completed).

#17 Re: Game Business » [Update] Shop Prices » 2015-02-25 22:46:33

When you first buy portals, you got two portals instead of one (since owning a single portal is kind of useless.) Now, each time you buy portals, you get five, so the  extra portal is no longer counted.

Basically, these are signs that look smilies.

When you select the NPCs, you get to choose what smiley to assign to them. You can choose from any of the smilies you own. Then you type in the text. When you walk in front of the NPCs, the text box will be white with black letters, similar to how it looks when players talk, as opposed to the white on black of traditional signs.

There are plenty of worlds already that use signs as if they were characters. This would help with those worlds and could add a little life to cities. Even on a quest, instead of being given hints by a lifeless sign, you could be advised fellow traveller.

In order to differentiate them from actual players, however, their smilies should either be grey-colored, or be square-shaped instead of round.

If you don't like a suggestion, yo can say so. There's no point in being snide about it.

That said, I would rather some type of fireball-throwing powerup, as it would fit in with the theme of the game much better. I also don't like the idea of only one person being able to have it at a time, as that will just lead to people taking the power-up and holding onto it for as long as possible, just to keep other players from getting it. That's not fun for anybody.

Nope. Nothing happens in God Mode. In normal mode, I can walk right through the space where I tried to place it, and it doesn't even erase other blocks or decorations I try to place it on top of. It just does nothing.

Yeah. It's visible in Blocks list, right next to the other secret blocks. I can also select it, just like any other block. But when I try to place it, nothing happens.

Self-explanatory

I bought the secret block before the Invisible blocks were added, and trying to place an invisible block does nothing. I can see it in my available blocks, but I can't use it.
