Right now, I think an open-source EE recreation is only viable if EEU flops.

By "remaking the original EE" I meant totally and completely remaking the client from scratch while still keeping the Player.IO backend. Remaking it from scratch gives the developers a chance to not make garbage code and make totally new code.
Also, what do you mean you have the original source code? Do you mean you have the source for the flash game?

There is a JavaScript library for Player.IO, making it 100% possible to remake the original EE in HTML5. AFAIK, EEU is just being made since Flash is being discontinued in 2020. I think it's a huge waste of time to remake the entire game and server when you could just port it to HTML5 super easily... (which could make it cross-platform too)

Since there's now a JavaScript client library for Player.IO, couldn't original EE be remade in HTML5 with <canvas>? To me, that seems much easier than making the entire thing all over again.
