Woo, 750k posts milestone!

EE's forums turned 10 years old this month, so it's like two achievements in one!

Someone's gonna say it so yes technically we hit 750k a while ago because posts were lost in the great uprising but the post counter has been stable for 5 years so let's not get too pedantic.

For nostalgic purposes, here's a brief history of the forums:

Aug 5 2010 - Cyclone hosts EE's first forums on https://ee.forumify.com/.
    Benjaminsen was buddies with Cyclone, who just so happened to have his own forum hosting site, Forumify! Check out the image below for the first ever post and thread, which can also be found here in a more messed-up state.

Mid-late 2013 - After lots of downtime, Atilla and Meredith take control of the forums and revive them.
    Cyclone became less and less active during this time, and many Forumify forums started having lots of downtime, especially due to spambots. EE's forums were down for months, so Atilla/Meredith did some social engineering, contacted Forumify's hosting provider and hijacked the domain name.

Dec 2013 - Cyclone notices his site got stolen and takes back control.
    Idk what they expected would happen. Btw Meredith (Meredith1999) was a dude.

Dec 2013 - Atilla/Meredith rehost the forums on https://eeforumify.com/.
    You can check out the announcement thread here! The original EE Forumify site went on holiday after this.

Feb 2015 - Different55 hosts the New and Improved™ forums at https://eeforums.cf.
    After lots of questionable moderation, Diff (who was a forum admin) became a traitor, downloaded most of the subforums and built a replica in secret at https://ee.failforums.me/ (not to be confused with the original failforums) until it was ready to go public.
    Meredith wasn't happy when he found out, and nuked https://eeforumify.com/. It was quite a dramatic period. You can find Diff's post about the new forum here.
    Fun fact: https://failforums.me/ (where Diff was a mod) began its life on Forumify in 2011, and lots of EE players used it.

Aug 2015 - Forums move to https://forums.everybodyedits.com/.
    5 years after their birth, the forums finally came over to ee.com and became the place we all know and love. Check out the announcement thread here.

It was a bumpy ride from Forumify to here, but we made it. Who knows, maybe we'll even reach 1M one day.

750k posts is pretty good considering not that many people are playing EE anymore. 

My favorite memory is when I joined the forums because I got to bless you all with my existence.

I had nothing to do with shutting down the forums. As far as moderation goes, I wanted the forums to be read-only. Diff and Zoey were given admin and moderator roles respectively, and they didn't try to improve anything in regards to moderation. In reality, after the forums were cloned I provided Diff with a copy of the forums database (with account details omitted) and it goes without saying that everything would have been lost if it weren't for the recovery operation. The hosting provider Cyclone used was en course to delete everything within a few months.

I believe the main disagreement with moderation was in relation to banning Guardians from the forums. It was an act of activism and desperation considering Julian had a departure plan and decided to execute it devoid of any feedback from the community. I retain my stance that it was the correct choice at the time, perhaps more should have been done. The game has spiraled into oblivion as predicted, and hence why it isn't so easy to paint the activism of the past in a negative light when everyone now is witnessing the very thing that some of us raised concerns about. I thank the people, admittedly too few, who saw through the Guardian scapegoat plot and spoke out against it, instead of falling in line and clamoring for a staff position in Julian's administration.

Was about to mention this, your copy of the database came in handy when creating this timeline, since my rip lacks proper time info pre-2015. Hoping to turn it into a read-only archive Soon™, because it was pretty interesting flipping through it after so long.

this is nice to know because i never understood the full history of forums but was kinda curious about it but not enough to ask someone
someone write a history book on this

What are your favourite forum memories?

theres many little things, the first things that come to mind are **** threads and mafia games
also drama threads and the memes
it was fun when we brought rep back for a few days and diff's rep immediately spiraled into the negatives
probably my favorite **** thread

Can some admin please do something to fix the username listed on Cyclone's posts? It's misleading and it seems kind of disrespectful that we've overlooked this for years.

Easier said than done. With proper date info we'd just take all posts before Meredith's takeover of his account and change the name back but without that info it's not that easy.
