Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Hey guys, I'm Joshua Stone (aka ByteArray) and as you probably know by now, I'm the lead developer on Everybody Edits & EE Universe. Since even before initially joining the dev team, I've been posting development vlogs on my YouTube channel every Sunday, discussing progress being made on my own projects and eventually my work on everything relating to EE.
And while quite a few of you have known about my videos to stay up-to-date on things, I get the impression that there are many here who had no idea what they were missing out on. I've intended to create a thread on here about my vlogs for a while now, but never ended up doing that until now. I want to apologize for that, and I want to work towards informing as many people as possible about the progress being made.
So anyway, in today's video I decided it would be good to discuss where EEU is at currently, as well as our general goals for the game as a whole...
If you're interested in catching up on everything that's been going on recently, just check out my "Game Dev Logs" playlist! I try to keep my video titles relevant to the actual video, but of course there are often multiple different topics that I discuss in each one.
So yeah, I'm planning on posting in this thread whenever I release a new video (unless it's not related to EE/EEU at all, I suppose), that way everyone can have one central place to discuss everything. I probably won't be able to respond to everything immediately at all times since I have enough trouble staying focused on work as it is, and I don't want this to become to much of a distraction from making progress on the actual game. But I definitely do intend to use this as a way to convey what's going on behind the scenes wherever possible. And whenever there are slowdowns, I want to be able to explain why it's happening.
That's about it for now! I expect to make significant progress on multiple things over the course of this week.

Well, I'm actually 19 so you aren't too far off.
is that ee blocks on your t-shirt
Yup! It's the t-shirt with the logo on it (available at https://teespring.com/stores/everybody-edits), although you can't see much of it in the video.

Ah, thanks! Wasn't sure where to put it, since even though I'm leading development, the official announcements are usually done by Xenonetix. But it makes sense that these kinds of updates should come directly from the source whenever possible.

Just released the next one! It's mostly about the improved block selection functionality and Kentiya's new stone blocks! They're essentially a replacement for colored bricks, for the reasons I discuss in that part of the video. That leads into the discussion about how the new graphics are much more original than the old ones, which were basically stolen from various Mario games (and of course the Facebook emoticons). As per usual, the graphics are subject to change at any point, and they might not look exactly as they appear in the video due to compression and such.
I'll try to answer any questions you might have regarding this!

Will there be private edit zones? It works like an edit zone but only you can see and touch the blocks you placed in it. Also, can a person limit how many blocks a player can place in an edit zone?

We've briefly discussed having the ability to control things like that. I'd expect it's going to start out simple, but more configuration options will be added over time to give level builders more options.

Honestly I cant imagine EE nor EEU without the metal blocks, bricks nor the face block (this last one is great to make "block people"). I dont think the stone pack replaces the brick pack either because they are so different in design. I think direct equivalents should be in EEU.
And as peace said, stone blocks look like basic blocks pretty much

We'll definitely have metal blocks that look fairly similar (in that they'd still be similar colors and have a "glistening" look to them), and there may be some kind of block with a face on it, but that's unlikely to look like it did in the past since it's a direct ripoff of New Super Mario Bros. As for the way the stone blocks look, I wouldn't be too surprised if they change a little throughout this process. But generally, the main thing that needs to look like the old game is the color, and if they look to similar to the basic blocks, we might increase their contrast a little. But seeing them in action, I think they look pretty good as they are!

Could you show us a version with the higher contrast, for reference?

Sure, here's an example with slightly increased contrast:
It helps in some aspects, but I think it might be over-emphasizing the lighting and making the repeating pattern stronger. If we do end up tweaking them to look more like this, it'll be after we get a bunch more blocks into the game to play with, since that's more beneficial than trying to perfect everything from the beginning.

Yup, one-block hook jumps aren't possible anymore with the new physics. While I'm sure some players may be a bit bummed about that, it's just part of having a more reliable and consistent physics engine that isn't as prone to errors. But we'll have plenty of new physics blocks to play with, like sticky and bouncy blocks!
