Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

This is like what was once in Platform Racing 2. The vanish door is a door that begins to count down the second you touch it. When that counter would reach zero, it "disappears", becoming the "gate" and reappearing after its timer has counted down. When placing the block, there should be a setting to adjust the timer's interval before disappearing, and for reappearing.
There are two variables to give this block. An interval in which it takes for it to disappear, and an interval for which it takes to reappear.
EDIT: Yoyoyo Azurepudding had this really great idea
"Anyway collapsing/vanishing blocks would be great, also what if there was a variant that would only count down by one if it's touched? for example if you jump on a block that says 3, it'll decrease to 2. you could stand on it as long as you want, but if you leave the block and touch it again, it'll decrease by 1 again. This could have some puzzle use that's not necessarily time-based. Maybe have a switch or something that could reset these"
It's a pretty good idea also you should totally go to page two and woot that post if you like it too
EDIT2: I'm probably going to make a non-global version of this later, but for now I'm going to close this topic. If you have any questions about how it works, please ask in my main graphics topic.

I am already frightened of wrong promises.
now this is a quality suggestion with a quality response from staff: graphics included, quick response from a dev included
emalton, if you're going to forward things to the team at this rate, perhaps EE could have a trello page with "forwarded" suggestions and their status for implementation in the game? (forwarded, approved, is worked on, implemented, rejected, cancelled, etc)

Yes, literally this!
EDIT: Although the reappearance timer can be set to something other than 3 if you wanted it to
EDIT2: The disappearance timer also activates no matter which direction you make contact with it. Even if you hit it from the side, it counts down.

Couldn't you do that with a snakebot or something?

it's the same thing as vanish blocks.
Just with different graphics. (but you can't set tick there)

It seems like it'd be a lot of extra stuff you'd have to do to code something that could force one block to turn into another, and then turn into nothing at all, as opposed to having a single Gate do it for you

looks pretty cool. I imagine it'd be important to handle all angles simply because we have gravity from all angles too.
I mean that might've been your reasoning originally but in case it wasn't here's another log on the fire
Thank you. Also it was one of my reasons-

graphics dont really matter tbh, its the game mechanic that counts

I haven't promised anything.

We already do this but with a separate channel in discord, but that seems like a better idea.

would it get implemented then? if not, could that separate channel become sort of public, the part of it that has this list of ideas?

Nothing has been promised here... he has simply stated that the idea is being passed on. We can infer from his comment that the block is more likely to be added but we have not been told that it's definitely going to be.
More on topic: would this block be global or client side? I'd personally like to see a variant for both.

i would go with client because global would just mean ****

I too would personally like to see a variant for both, but seeing as how Everybody Edits is a lagfest, I decided to only make one available for the local client, as of now.

It's literally timed doors, but similar.

Not really. Timed doors change from doors and gates at an unchangeable set interval. These blocks only start to disappear AFTER the player has touched them.
In the OP it only lists interval as a value. I think interval should be renamed to delay. Interval should be kept though but functions as the time it takes to reappear. So 2 values are entered per vanishing block, delay and interval. The delay value is how long it takes for the door to disappear after you touch it. The interval value is how long it takes for the door to reappear.

That's a lot better than I originally worded it, thank you!
