Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

"GOING HOME"
=[ Welcome ]=====================
This post describes in detail the level requirements, contest rules, time-frames and prizes of the August 2015 themed level design contest, "Going Home". The level requirements in particular are somewhat different from previous contests - artificially restricting, so if you are considering partaking as a contestant, make sure to read them carefully.
=[ Contest Team ]================
Judging panel (alphabetical):
- Morganizer
- Pyromaniac
- SmittyW.
- Stagecrew
- Zoey2070
Contest organizer: nlmdejonge
=[ Level Requirements ]==========
(Building at the start.)
- The player needs to start the level in a building.
- The player exits the building.
- The building is not the player's home.
- The aforementioned building and its surroundings need to be dark and depressing.
(Home at the end.)
- The player needs to end the level in a house.
- The player enters the house.
- The house is the player's home.
- The aforementioned house and its surroundings need to be light and cheerful.
(Regular and easy.)
- As explained below, there should be a regular way to finish the level, and an easy way.
- At the start of the level, the player needs to have the OPTION to do something that will make their trip to the end easier. For example, flip a switch to close purple doors, obtain the protection effect to make hazards harmless, take/leave coins to open/close coin doors; something like that. How exactly you implement this is up to you.
- If a player chooses the easy way (chooses to make the trip easier), then the player should still visit the same locations as the other (regular) players. In other words, all players should be mixed, there should NOT be completely separate paths for regular and easy trips.
(What not to use.)
- The level may NOT contain arrows. (Not a single arrow. Also no boost arrows and no hidden arrows.)
- The level may NOT contain HIDDEN dots. (Regular, visible dots are allowed.)
- The level may NOT contain signs OUTSIDE the start building and end house. (Signs inside the building and house are allowed.)
- The level may NOT have a size 25x25 or 50x50. (A big world is not necessarily better than a smaller world. As a comparison, some really good films are 1.5 hours long and would not necessarily be better if they were 3 hours long; maybe they would be worse.)
- As you can read in the Contest Rules section below, minimap art is NOT relevant.
=[ Contest Rules ]===============
- The level must comply with the above (non-negotiable) Level Requirements.
- Levels may be created alone or with (no more than) two authors.
- Being in more than one team simultaneously is not allowed.
- Submitting more than one level per person/team is not allowed.
- The level may not be bot-assisted.
- The level needs to be accessible for players who have no beta access.
- Levels that are altered after the submission deadline will be disqualified.
- The judges are listed in the Contest Team section above.
- The judges will ignore what the level's minimap looks like. To prevent any misunderstandings: for this contest, minimap art is irrelevant.
- The judges will look at the level's atmosphere, in-game art (what players see while playing, NOT the minimap), and gameplay/minis.
As you can read, the Level Requirements are artificially restricting (e.g. not being allowed to use arrows). Restrictions can aid creative thought. While this applies primarily to self-imposed limitations, constraints can drive/breed/cultivate creativity.
=[ Time-Frames ]=================
In this section, a minus sign (-) means "up to AND INCLUDING".
The time standard UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) determines when days start and end.

=[ Prizes ]======================
The (creators of the) best ten levels will receive gems.
1. 700 gems
2. 500 gems
3. 200 gems
4. 75 gems
5. 45 gems
6. 35 gems
7. 30 gems
8. 25 gems
9. 20 gems
10. 15 gems
The gems have already been paid for. The staff of Everybody Edits is currently holding the gems, and the staff will direct-transfer the gems to the winners after the results are in. If a winning level has two authors, the gem prize will be divided equally. (An odd number of gems? The last gem goes to the author with the oldest account.)
Also, thanks to Different55, the top three winners will be able to get the forum rank of "EE Homeboy" or "EE Homegirl", if they want.
=[ Questions? ]==================
If you have any questions, please post them in this thread.
An easy way to reach the contest organizer, nlmdejonge, during this contest is to visit IRC. Channel #eeforums on Rizon (irc.rizon.net).

Not enough room for creative freedom
There's certainly enough room for creative freedom, people just have to learn to make the most of what they got.
The contest you made and the contest here are going after different things.
I'm looking forward to it. ^^

All the maps are going to be literally the exact same.
You start exiting a building and enter a house.
Everything in between will be "literally the exact same"?
Sounds unlikely, although not theoretically impossible (wiki).
You don't have to participate, it's up to you.

Hm... define "building"

What if the arrow is part of the art, like the stinger for a bee?

Good point Kirby, I use action blocks in my ingame art all the time.

I cannot give you more information than what's in the announcement (Level Requirements).
You're basically free to do whatever you want as long as it's not against the contest requirements/rules.
What if the arrow is part of the art, like the stinger for a bee?
Per the contest requirements/rules, if there is an arrow, then you get disqualified.
If you want a bee with a stinger, I guess you'll have to use your imagination and battle with other blocks.

I don't get it, is this supposed to be a playable world or just rpg-like story based?
Offline
No gravity blocks mean world will not have minigames, or at least not challenging ones.
No signs mean that there will be no story to read along the world?
What's the point playing a world then? :/
Knowing it's not about the art on the minimap?

Don't having arrows can make good minigames, but you will be restricted
And you can place signs tath says the story, but only on the start and end of the level

And you can place signs tath says the story, but only on the start and end of the level
That's the thing. :c
Begin: "I am very depressed, I miss my home, I am now heading back there."
*plays boring world with no minis*
End: "I am home now and everything's fine. Happy endings make me cry." C;
I enjoyed the world. Wow.

Do ladders/chains fall under the category of arrows or dots?
There's no mention of either of these in the rules so I would assume they're okay, but it would be wise to make sure.

You say you don't want small or medium sized worlds, then proceed to argue that smaller worlds are better? Does this still mean large world+?
