Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Who is Your Favorite Scientist?

Just what the title says.

Note: I can already smell the people saying "Me." Don't.

Results, so far:

Tesla: 4

Marie Curie: 2

Einstein: 2

Michio Kaku: 2

Jamie Hyneman: 1

Charles Darwin: 1

Steven Hawking: 1

Kurt Godel: 1

Thomas Edison: 2

Richard Feynman: 1

Beth Stadler: 1

Dmitri Mendeleev: 1

Douglass Adams: 1

Carl Sagan: 1

Neil DeGrasse Tyson: 1

My opinion:

I made this topic for a reason, because there was one scientist who, as soon as I found out about him, I thought was awesome. Through bad-assery, inventing awesome stuff, and being the underdog who is stolen from, he is the best scientist ever. Nikola Tesla.

EDIT: My least favorite scientist ever: Edison.

A slightly inappropriate picture

Re: Who is Your Favorite Scientist?

This is probably the hardest question I've ever encountered in my life.

But I guess I'll say Tesla as well.

Marie Curie, she waz an evil woman bent on world destruction. JK. She was a woman who worked with radioactive elements. She died from radiation, of course.

Re: Who is Your Favorite Scientist?

Wikipedia seems to have Nikola Tesla down as an inventor and engineer, not a scientist.   My own vote, however, most definitely goes to Richard Feynman.   It'd be nice if I could be more like him.

@Twipply: Meh, it depends on what you consider a scientist really. (Like how I consider Edison more of a businessman than an inventor, kinda like Steve Jobs) But yeah, Tesla is basically a scientist, what with all AC Current, death rays, radio, and such.

Updated.

I like to consider a scientist as someone who has a vast knowledge in at least one of the natural sciences, such as physics, chemistry, or biology.   While some sites claim he gained a degree in physics, wikipedia seemingly has four sources from that university saying otherwise.   It only lists engineering under his fields, and I can find no scientific theories attributed to him.

Of course, even if we do classify him as a scientist, I don't know how he even compares to some other names.   While maybe not important to who's your favourite, at least names such as Einstein and Feynman have degrees, theories, and even nobel prizes.

That would make me a scientist, even though all I am is a drunken zoo worker who reads a crap-load of books on evolution and genetics.

If you only read about those two things, then you're missing out on a great deal of fundamental information about biology.   This would already exclude you from having a 'vast' knowledge, which I would consider to be a bachelor's degree at a minimum anyway.   Do you have one of those from a reputable university?

I think to be a scientist they have to have more than a vast knowledge. They have to have actively contributed to, affirmed knowledge, or spread knowledge in the subject at some point in their lifetime.
