Can't say I like this change.  Not that having no delay is bad; simply that it appears that this change makes "accidental" jumps way too likely.  I've noticed it myself, and I'm experienced enough to press buttons with precision.  A new or inexperienced player might find it happening to them constantly.

A tiny delay might solve the issue, but who knows.

It's changing a core mechanic in the game, that mechanic being jumping. However slight the change may be, its not a good idea to make a change to something like that without a reason.

I agree that it shouldn't have been changed in the first place without careful consideration and deliberation, but that is another worry separate than this one.

Yes, hence the comment: "I agree that it shouldn't have been changed in the first place without careful consideration and deliberation, but that is another worry separate than this one."

Though it is good that the reversion was not due to feedback and rather due to improper testing and deliberation.
