So this is the end of the EE saga?

So the staff have essentially stated that they're cutting all means of contact from the community and that we're not going to get updates, and that the development has been halted.

So, goodbye, EE community. It has been nice playing EE, EEU and speculating about EE!, but it's most likely not coming now.

See this thread for a good recap on the development status.

Last we heard, 60% of assets are done, and development is continuing. There are no announcements of things being halted except the programming back in February, which is close to being finished, and I would be a bit surprised if this issue still hasn't already been resolved behind the scenes. I doubt that development has cancelled, given that it's been expressed that there's both a backup plan and an admittance that the development could be given up.

Ending the project and moving on is something that has been spoken about. Currently, there is a plan in place but if that plan fails then there's a chance it will mean giving up.

Even if you choose to leave, keep in mind that there will still be people interested in EE, and willing to work on related projects. Just look at the EEO modding scene. I can't speak for anybody else, but I'd be a bit surprised if there are no fan attempts at a revival or successor, if EE! fails. In the end, EE is a tardigrade.

EE has now essentially turned into one of those niche romhacking websites. What a timeline we live in.

Creative communities can live for a very long time without official support.

Lemmings was released in 1991, and the company that originally made the game is long gone. And yet, a community formed around it, they made an open source level player/editor, and they still make and play packs of lemmings levels to this day, 30 years later. EE isn't going anywhere.
