Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Should you lock topics?

I often see some people locking their topics as soon as they believe that the question is answered, is this ok or should they stop doing it?

The main disadvantage of doing this is that sometimes there is more to be discussed, especially in things like bug reports, where although your specific case may have been explained / fixed, other people may still be having the problems, or it may turn out that the bug was not in fact fixed, even though it seemed it was, or I guess the bug could even return in later updates.

I guess the advantage for doing it would be that sometimes people continue to discuss what doesn't need to be discussed, or occasionally gravedig the topic either not realising it was finished or with a small unimportant comments.

Personally, I think the advantages of keeping a topic open clearly outweigh the advantages of closing the topic, but is there something I'm missing?

(Obviously there are exceptions where there are actual reasons for the topic to be closed, but this is just about topics that are closed because the OP thinks that the discussion is over)

I think only ee staff and forum staff members should be able to lock topics on Bug Reports and on Questions and Answers.
Everything else is ok for me.

^ English only please.

And don't gravedig threads just to say "I agree". Add something of value or let them sleep.

One bot to rule them all, one bot to find them. One bot to bring them all... and with this cliché blind them.

Re: Should you lock topics?

to further the case against locking one's own topics, I present to you the following:

Bruce Fan Art. Fishbowl smiley. Game Suggestions Simulator. And many other comedy classics ruthlessly locked by Onjit.

With Onjit banned and his legacy of comedy shattered, our community spaces will be filled with nothing but aimless speculation and EE drama.

This is a pressing matter of our times; it must be handled with haste and great care before our world comes to demise.

Very well thought out argument. Unfortunately, your mom.

The reason why he locked is not unintentional . He did because he doesn't want to be involved with EE drama anymore or bring another players into these discussions ...

You can lock the topic if you have a reason for that . If there are no reasons to lock a topic or more and you don't ask forum admins or mods , it's a good chance to be banned(Severely as spam).
