Context:

This forum game is adapted from a game that my sister played at the summer camp thing she went to. The premise of the game was that each player was given the name of someone else and an object with the task of 'assassinating' that person. To assassinate someone you would have to make them touch the object because of something you did or said. For example, if your object was a pencil then them simply holding a pencil wouldn't assassinate them but if you passed the pencil to them or asked them to pass the pencil to you then you would have successfully assassinated them. The only exception was that you couldn't force them to touch the object. Eg. hitting them with the pencil wouldn't assassinate them. Some other examples that my sister told me about were that someone asked someone to hold the door open for them and assassinated them for that and someone else placed some blades of grass on someone's lap which in of itself wasn't an assassination but that person then picked the blades of grass up to throw them at the other person which caused them to be assassinated. Once you assassinated your target and hence eliminated them from the game, you would then take on their mission and then try to assassinate their target. This continued until there was only 1 player left.

How it works on the forums:
- Each player will be given a target in a perfect loop. Eg. A targets B, B targets C, C targets D, D targets E and E targets A.

- Each player will also be given a mission. Missions can be words, phrases or topics. Missions will mostly be related to EE.
- This game will be played in every thread on the forums. This potentially includes the EEU forums as well when that gets up and running properly. I've already checked that this is okay with Diff.
- In order to assassinate someone, you must get them to mention your topic directly in response to something you said. If they make a post about your topic without your input it does not count as an assassination.
- Once you assassinate someone they are out of the game and you will gain their target; however, your mission will be different from what they had.
- This will keep going until there is only 1 player left.
- I anticipate the game lasting several months at least. If there are still multiple players alive by the end of November 2020 the game will automatically end and restart for 2021.

There are 2 ways to win this game. First of all, simply be the last player standing. Secondly, I will also consider whoever gets the most assassinations to be a winner even if they do not survive until the end of the game. There will be a prize for each of these winners. It's possible to get both victories and hence both prizes. I haven't decided exactly what the prize will be, but if I don't think of anything better it will probably default to some in-game currency or cash through PayPal - whichever you'd prefer.

Rules:
- If you think you have assassinated someone, do not mention it in the thread! Instead, PM me on the forums linking me to where you assassinated them. I will then judge whether the situation counts as you getting them to mention your topic. My word is final.
- I will announce all successful assassinations in this thread.
- Do not tell people who your target is and what your mission is. If you are assassinated and have lost the game this rule is especially important as the person who assassinated you will now have your target. Telling people who your target was makes things harder for that player. Don't be salty about losing.
- You must be decently active to play the game. If you don't use the forums for a few weeks or are posting too infrequently you may be automatically assassinated. You should be active on [any part of] the forums a couple of times per week as a bare minimum.
- Do not break forum rules for the sake of this game. If you are banned from the forums it is likely that you'll be automatically assassinated for not being active enough.
- If you think your target is too inactive for you to have a fair chance of assassinating them then PM me on the forums and I will judge whether or not they should be assassinated.

In all of these examples I will be using the topic of 'ice cream'.

Despite not explicitly mentioning the topic, the target's response is clearly about the topic and was prompted by the assassin.

3. You mention your topic and your target makes a post that refers to yours:

Although the target does not quote the assassin, it is clear that they are responding to what they said.

It could be argued that the target was responding to the random person instead of the assassin. However, since the random person added nothing new to the conversation, it is clear that the target's post is as a result of the assassin's. If the random person had said that they liked strawberry ice cream and the target then made a post talking about specifically strawberry ice cream, then they would not be assassinated as if the random person did not mention strawberry then the target would not have talked about ice cream.

4. You create a thread talking about your topic and your target addresses the OP.

Regardless of how many posts are in between the OP and the target's post, the target would be assassinated because they have clearly talked about ice cream as a result of what the assassin said. If the target did not mention ice cream and instead said they like eating chocolate in summer then they would not be assassinated as they would be talking about what they like eating in summer and not icecream.

5. Your target mentions your topic by themselves and you make a post about it which they reply to.

The target's first post alone would not have them assassinated as the assassin did not prompt them to say it. However, they would not have made their second post talking about icecream if the assassin had not posted.

6. Your target makes a thread about your topic and you make a post about it which they reply to.

Assassin wrote:

Target wrote:

Just as with 5, here the target is assassinated because they mentioned the topic again due to what the assassin said.

7. Your target refers to your topic in a different thread as a result of you mentioning your topic:

Even though the assassin did not post in this new thread, the target is still referring to a post that the assassin made whilst mentioning the topic.

8. You do not mention your topic but your target does mention it as a result of something you said:

I like that I get to eat lots of ice cream in the summer!

Despite not mentioning ice cream themself, the assassin still assassinates the target because the target mentioned ice cream in response to something the assassin said.

1. You mention your topic and your target quotes your post but doesn't mention your topic:

Even though the target mentions ice cream in a post that responds to the assassin, the assassin did not directly prompt the target to mention ice cream.

If there are any other examples you can think of that I've missed feel free to ask me about them with the example of 'ice cream'.

As a general rule, you shouldn't be too obvious about your target and your mission. If you are, it will be significantly harder to assassinate them. For example, don't bring up your topic in every single thread you comment in and don't ask specifically your target to talk about your topic (especially if they have not posted in the thread). You should be subtle and try to hide your topic in your normal posts. Remember, the game is (probably) going to last several months so don't be afraid to bide your time and strike when people have perhaps forgotten about the game.

Signups:
- To sign up just comment in this thread that you want to join.
- Signups will close on the 30th of December so that I can confirm everyone who is playing and assign who has what target and mission.
- The game will start on the first of January 2020. On this day I will send everyone their mission and target.
- I'm hoping the game will have at least 10 players though I'd be willing to start with as few as 5.
- There is no limit on how many players can join.
- How big the prize is for winning will depend on how many players join.

TLDR:

- This game will potentially last several months and spans across the entire EE forums.
- Each player will secretly be given the name of another player (your target) and a topic.
- If you can get your target to mention your topic in their own post as a direct result of something you said in one of your posts then they get eliminated from the game.
- When you eliminate someone you get their target and a new topic.
- Last player alive wins. Whoever eliminates the most people also wins.
- There will be some sort of prize.

Probably not. Players will have to PM me in order to count the assassination. This is because it is unlikely that I will remember everyone's targets and missions and also because it's fairer to let everyone handle it themselves than me interfering.
