Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Color namer

I have a color namer, it's an engine that takes a color as an input and outputs a color name.

Re: Color namer

I made a website https://colornamer2.netlify.com/ it contains 2 versions of the color namer simultaneously. "color name 1" is the original version, while "color name 2" is an expanded version.

Here is the HTML5 graph of all the color names used by "color name 2":

The color is rounded in the HSV space to the available hue/saturation/value names. Check out https://colornamer2.netlify.com/. There are 2 methods, "color name 1" with 45 colors and "color name 2" with 249 colors. "color name 1" is in fact the method I used for the "haslo names colors" EE world I used to host sometimes.

Re: Color namer

Imagine if I doubled the color resolution of the color namer once again

What would the saturation/value names be?

Re: Color namer

I suggest you use prefixes like dodrant, semiextra, and ultra for those cases. Blackish, x grayish, and Whitish also may work for some colors.

Re: Color namer

http://www.visibone.com/color/poster4x.html describes someone's naming system for the 6×6×6 RGB colorcube. That's where I got the "Faded" and "Weak" in the first place. However, "Hard" is another saturation listed in between "Vivid" and "Faded", perhaps it could be the name for the shade between Bright and Faded.

Raphe9000 wrote:

Combining your ideas, the list would look something like this:

Bright	Faintpa	Semipal	Dodrant	Pale	Semiext	Extrapa	Ultrapa	#GRAY

Faintda	Hard	???	???	???	???	???	#GRAY

Semidar	???	Faded	Semidul	Weak	Extrawe	#GRAY

Dodrant	???	???	Extrafa	???	#GRAY

Dark	???	Dull	???	#GRAY

Semiext	???	???	#GRAY

Extrada	Extradu	#GRAY

Ultrada	#GRAY

#GRAY

(note: some of the names are truncated)

Still, not all the shades are named. Also, doubling the color resolution of colorname2 would also mean twice as many hues, for a total of 48 hues. Someone did actually name 48 hues, although that "Bright Green" hue would be confusing (00FF00 is Bright Green, 008000 is Dark Green, 60FF00 would be Bright Brightgreen and 308000 would be Dark Brightgreen). There's also this color namer which could be used to replace some of the hue names in that 48 hue name list.

Re: Color namer

instead "extra dull" i would use "dark dull"
and instead "extra" word, i would use "very" word, and maybe "quite" instead of "semi" (at least for some colours)
"quite darker red" instead "semi-extra dark red"
and maybe add words like unsaturated/desaturated and light/fair

That color namer is a bunch of random names specifically describing a particular color. There's no way it can help in naming shades supposed to be used by all possible hues.

That's just asking for confusion with the previous systems. I don't think the existing names (Bright, Semipale, Pale, Extrapale, Semidark, Faded, Weak, Dark, Dull, Extradark) should be changed, let alone moved.

it's only suggestion, cause "Extra" doesn't seems good word for me (Semiextra is even worser), but as suggestion you don't have to apply it to your colour naming system
so what about the rest of my naming?? would it be usefull or not!? it gives only 6/7 unknows instead 13

Undoing your transformations to base names results in an extra unknown between Semidark and Dark and between Pale and Extrapale. And the final result will obviously have 0 unknowns and no duplicate names (like your Desaturated/Desaturated), filling the entire 2D space with unique names. Your ideas could be considered though.

Edit: Uhh...
