Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I think you should be building the minis first, and then the surrounding walls.

One bot to rule them all, one bot to find them. One bot to bring them all... and with this cliché blind them.

Wait a few days, start building an other world. You will get a lot of ideas while building a very different themed thing.
When I have no idea, I do this, and it works well.
I hope I could help you.

Re: how to deal with creative burnout?

I'm assuming you're just having trouble coming up with new gameplay. I think the most important thing here is to focus on smaller things rather than the gameplay as a whole. There are a few methods I'd personally try in that situation:

1. Creating minis somewhere else in the world (or in another world), only focusing on the minis themselves (not on the "path" of the world). After that you can move the minis and create a path with them.
2. Alternatively you can try the complete opposite: Create the path first and then make the minis on that path.
3. Set some sort of rules to yourself, for example: "Don't use gravity arrows for this mini" or "This mini must use portals"
4. Try to imitate someone else's gameplay style. You might want to go play a world you like and think how you could create similar minis.

All of these are basically different ways of limiting your way of thinking about building gameplay. The point is that the more you "limit" yourself, the easier it is to decide what to do, because you have less choices. If you decide to make a mini only using basic blocks and portals, you don't need to waste energy thinking about what blocks to use, since you already know you'll be using basic blocks and portals.

Quality comes from quantity. If you feel like you're not able to come up with anything good, just create a lot. Even if most of it is bad, eventually you will end up with something nice.

Re: how to deal with creative burnout?

- build anything, like, anything that can be played, dont think a lot, just starting placing blocks
- play it
- rate it with "how much I like this?"
- erase
- build other anything, again without thinking much
- play it
- rate it again

do this until you find your own style

do not try to build so other players will like it
build what YOU would like to play
if something is bad or nice, it is up to YOU to decide

creativity burnouts comes when you starts thinking if something will be good instead of thinking if you like it

Re: how to deal with creative burnout?

what i usually do is i go back to things i've made and think "what cool things can i do with this mini?" and put either an alternate path or blue coin there

Re: how to deal with creative burnout?

Call me strange but I work sometimes in a backwards fashion, Placing minigames (fully developed and decorated) in random spots on the screen and adding in the necessary linkways and portals. Just start experimenting randomly, don't even think about your actions and sometimes, an idea just crops up that you just have to implement and add in the fillers along with it. Repeat and eventually voila. That what most of my (uncredited) minis did.
