Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Edit: I didn't make this topic, it was split off from this topic which was discussing gay stuff.
I don't get the whole appeal of devoting a month to pride tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you see it as a month to celebrate your sexuality - you should always be celebrating your sexuality (no matter what it is).
If you see it as a month for educating people on pride related issues - we should always be educating people on pride related issues.
I like pride events though. I generally like being social despite my introvertness but pride events especially have a higher chance of meeting a guy :3

>devoting an entire month to a group of people
seriously
im sure people would go ape **** if there was a straight month
Every month is straight month :/
Straight people haven't been murdered for being straight. Straight ppl haven't been vilified and had laws made against them for existing. Straight people haven't had a brilliant inventor kill himself bc he was chemically castrated because of being straight.
People have been sent to jail for being lgbt. People have been made fun or bullied of for being lgbt. People have committed suicide because of how people treated them for being lgbt. No one has people getting in an uproar for being straight. People coming out as straight isn't a big deal.
None of this happens to straight people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't need a month to say "I'm not afraid to say I'm straight"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy ****

the murders and jails are in the past now, in civilized countries at least. you're putting it as if these are happening literally nowadays.
as for bullying, yes, i agree
but my point is that devoting an entire month to a minority is blatantly stupid. a day would be perfectly fine, that's how it works for literally any event in human history. but a month? no. somehow jews dont have that, despite the holocaust, afro americans dont have that, despite the centuries of slavery and oppresion that was justified by american law, chinese and slavic nationalities dont have that, despite total casualties of 15-20mil and 20-27mil respectively during ww2, muslims dont have that despite the crusades, inquisition and modern day situation on middle-east, women dont have that despite obtaining the right to vote just like 150-200 years ago
go protest if you want, thats perfectly fine, but devoting a month to a minority (considering there are other groups of people that suffered much more) is absurd. my subjective opinion.
also i did not expect specifically you to go ape **** over this, ive expected better from you zoey. theres no need to rape that caps lock button and become so worried/angry over some forum discussion. its not worth it.

Sis tell that to the people in gay concentration camps in Chechnya and the victims of the Pulse shooting lol
Plus, not only are queer ppl vilified, murdered, illegal, etc. around the world (and I'm not even gonna touch the "civilised countries" thing) but our prides and pride month is important to let other queer ppl know that they being queer is normal and nothing to be ashamed of. Queer ppl in Uganda are doing their best to hold their first pride parade, a country where u can be sentence to life imprisonment for being queer. It's important to let queer ppl, and especially young queer ppl who are still figuring themselves out, know that they are normal not some kind of crime.
As well as that, it's important to know abt queer history in the same way it's important to know about black history to know about women's history etc. Along with pride month there is an LGBT+ history month (February in the UK, October in the US) in which we look at famous and well known people in history who were queer (like Alan Turing mentioned above) as well as how our community has shaped with time as well as influenced the spaces around us (e.g. Stonewall w/ Marsha P Johnson, AIDS epidemic, etc.)
The reason why there isn't some kind of straight pride or straight history month is bc EVERYTHING is straight pride. EVERYTHING is straight history. If queer ppl weren't so villified and hated across the world, we wouldn't need a pride. Straight people don't need a pride bc they already have everything to be proud of and assert it so thruout history esp in response to queer ppl. Being straight is normal to the point where it's assumed and that's what societal roles are based upon (heteronormativity/cisnormativity), bc it's so normalised it's celebrated and broadcasted in everything, it's inescapable. Queer ppl have always had to fight for a voice in society and representation in every aspect.
but perhaps we digress?
But perhaps we do. idk about u guys but I'd much rather not have to fight for the validation of my identity and the celebration of it. It's probably better if this topic moves to a Debates thread and this thread abt pride stays about pride rather than arguing whether it's worth existing or not.
I KNOW JEWISH PPL DIED IN THE HOLOCAUST BUT WHY ISN'T THERE A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR CHRISTIANS ://///////
It bothers me that you write that like Christians are undeserving of a holiday. All the violence under the Roman Empire and the Middle East should be enough.

sure i guess
but still, gotta mention that chechnya and brazil are far from being civilized countries; as for murders/jails, my point was that it is rare (in comparison to, say, 100 years ago) and not allowed by the state/law anymore
edit:
I mean, heck, I still hear people using gay as an insult. And that's hurtful, because it sends a message to other people, those who might be gay, that it's something bad.
damn, things like these have been discussed a lot of times here already

unsure if joking, but men can get breast cancer. and if you want to create a topic for some other thing then feel free to do that! but this topic is for pride month specifically :)
@bimps you didn't need to make that post either but you still did! lots of things aren't needed, but sometimes they are wanted :)
also
In lots of places, men who have sex with men can't donate blood due to "a higher risk of disease" and stuff (this possibly ties into Ronald Reagan Being Bad). checking red cross guidelines says they went from being lifetime barred from donating blood to... only having to not have sex with another man for a year! source
so... if you're eligible to donate blood, maybe do it for those who can't! I've always wanted to but I've never reached the minimum weight requirement, and I've been upset about it for years because if there's one thing I'm good for, it's having pretty healthy organs and stuff!

idk if its like that. prob not idk. but I have see on tv and news people used it like that

to clarify on my post, i just dont get why some people revolve their lives around uncontrollable factors. there are people that will almost only talk about how they are trans and why that makes them special.

The point of this topic seems to be assimilating everyone who isn't cishet into an angry vocal minority.

This in particular is making me kind of angry, because it sounds like some quote lifted ad-verbum from a /r/tumblrinaction post as if to show that if lgbt+ then wussies. IMO your behavior is just furthering these "triggered by everything" stereotypes. "Rape" in this case refers to unpleasant stimulation of something, e.g. earrape.
10 years and still awkward. Keep it up, baby!

yeah and people misusing the word rape makes me kind of angry too... cuz, y'know, rape is a serious and traumatic topic and shouldn't be misused for something like having my capslock key on.
