Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I thin you're overreacting. People don't usually mean to threaten other people when they use sarcasm.
they can and they will i hate sarcasm idk how its funny its just some people made up so they didnt have to listen to there parents etc
You can't just assume peoples' intentions when they use sarcasm. I think most people just use sarcasm because they think it's funny or clever. While some people do use it to mock others like I mentioned in my first post, it's a lot more trivial than actually threatening somebody.

The best part about this now is that n1kf is trying to be sincere both on this topic and other topics so he doesn't end up being called a hypocrite.

I have no idea why are you attacking n1kf;
1) he didn't compare himself with others, he was talking about frequent forum posts and internet overall,
2) the hypocrite thing is stupid to even mention here. Even if someone's not doing something properly, they can still tell tips to others, right? The reason they aren't doing it properly is totally different story. In this topic it's not important why n1kf as a person doesn't go after what he wrote,
I agree with OP. There are different ways to use sarcasm but in most scenarios it's better not to use it, when it's mocking, disrespectful, misleading/confusing, unwelcoming, annoying etc. When people use it that way they think "only people genuine enough like themselves will understand it", but in reality using it that way is just waste of everyone's time. I can't count the times people used sarcasm to describe something they think, but every time they do they also deflect from their own point.
I only consider it if it's funny but does not belong to group above (although with occasional exceptions :DDD), or if you must use it in order to be clearer on what you actually meant.

Being sarcastic doesn't stop you from being sincere or genuine, so I guess OP wants less sarcasm.
It's also a logical fallacy to suggest that his point is less valid if it makes him a hypocrite.
I agree that sarcasm when used comedically can very easily become scathing or hurtful. Whether it's the lowest form of wit, idk, but it can just as readily express genuine thoughts.

More like what happens when you force a bunch of people that play forum games to judge each other. Normal people don't play forum games.

If we're just a bunch of weirdos that find entertainment in the same thing, then I wouldn't expect so many of us to be so judgemental. I guess not even shared interests can cause people to respect each other on the Internet!

Well if your shared interest is playing a forum game where you basically make fun of each other, then no of course you won't be respecting each other.

There's a difference between mockery and imitation. Mockery requires exaggeration, while imitation doesn't.

Pretty sure the whole point of the forum game is to make the imitations funny, so the exaggeration is completely natural and expected.

There are still some people out on the forum mocking each other... I guess that means there's still lots of progress to make! We can do it, forum!
Actually, we can't.

Since when did this thread turn into a Roast Me
Since people stopped being sincere...

Maybe if you post more in this thread and less in other threads it will help increase the average sincerity?

Perhaps they're already being sincere to themselves and expressing their personalities accordingly. Maybe imposing your beliefs on how people should act would lead them to be... I don't know, insincere?

That's a good point. It just goes to show how naive I am. Even after five-and-a-half years on the Internet, I still sometimes find myself in denial of how negative people naturally are.
If we wanted to, we could let people go all Bimps and express ourselves by constantly insulting each other, and telling others to drink inedible cleaning products. We could also take the other extreme where create a dystopian dictatorship where all negativity and sarcasm is purged on sight. Neither of those things are things I've ever wanted. We have to draw the line somewhere for what the community accepts. For me, I think the best line would be one where snarky insults aren't actively embraced and wooted.
I apologize for my poorly written post that might have come across as unpleasant, as it was just because I was so desperate to lower the negativity here if even a little bit. The problem here isn't that negativity and sarcasm exists; the problem's that it's actively accepted by many users on the forum. Like I mentioned in a previous post I've seen a sarcastic jab even get a woot by one of the forum moderators. I want to encourage people to be more positive, and to let them know that they're not alone in their attempts.

This community has WAY bigger issues than sarcasm.
Agreed, about few players on EE hates me and half of EE like me, I think.
It depends.
