Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

"Miliseconds between block placements" setting

To fix the issue with bots, to slow down trolling, and to allow levels like EE/place to exist without bots.

Re: "Miliseconds between block placements" setting

IMO this would just get annoying, plus if you think someone will troll, don't give them edit!
And what issue with bots?

Nevermind I saw just now that you mentioned "setting". I thought you wanted this on a global scale. A setting like this per world could be actually useful.

Re: "Miliseconds between block placements" setting

Is this per-player, or will all players be spamming to try and place their own blocks?

One bot to rule them all, one bot to find them. One bot to bring them all... and with this cliché blind them.

That doesn't solve the issue. People can troll when you don't expect it, and if you refuse to give edit to everybody, it basically ruins the idea of a free edit world!

Per-player, I would assume.

We have enough methods to defend against trolling, we don't need anymore.

If anything we need to make trolling easier.

Why? Trolls intend to ruin the fun of others. That's not something we should be giving special privileges and recognition to.

I think the best anti trolling mechanism would be to detect if players are drawing too fast over a too-wide radius in a short amount of time. This would only affect people who are not the world owner.

The best anti trolling mechanism would be to not give edit to players you dont trust, and be watching just incase someone who you didnt think would troll does. Also check the map, and save every few mins so if something is trolled, then you can just go back a few mins and it will be fine.

Also, it would be quite hard to automatically detect trolling without getting a lot of false positives, e.g. making a box / replacing the border, or drawing large edges for art or something, which would be quite annoying

Please clarify that. What issue?

to slow down trolling

There doesn't exist, in practice or in theory, a way to regulate the blocks placed by a player. A single block can ruin a level, and this suggestion would only slightly limit one method of trolling, while inconveniencing many more players.

It wouldn't fix anything, they could merely use multiple accounts to bypass your non-solution to a non-issue.

The same goes for any other method of preventing trolling.

Not the ones I suggested...

The first half of your idea ruins the concept of a free edit world, unless you only refuse to give edit to blatant alt accounts. The second half isn't something that can easily prevent alt accounts from trolling.

Ok, so you cant really only give edit to people you trust on free edit worlds, but if you keep close watch, then you can easily catch trolling and revert to a previous save should you need to. I also believe that good features should have a wide range of uses, not just a few (I cant think of anything that would require a max block speed other than free edit worlds), as for these things its probably just easier to use bots.
