Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I think that this would be a really useful and cool addition to the game.
Filter Blocks
Function:
-Allows only one player through at a time.
-If a player is inside it, no other player may enter until they leave.
-Acts as a normal block to all other players if someone is inside it.
-If two or more players hit it at exactly the same time, the game randomly chooses what order to let them through.
-If a player has been next to the filter block longer than another player, then they are let through first.
Allows for:
-Separating players into teams
-Accurate race finishes
-A gate that controls the flow of players but also can not be clogged by a single player*
-Player Staircases (Just for fun)
-Smiley collision physics if a level is filled with Filter Blocks (Just for fun)
Other information:
-Would be under "Actions" tab in edit menu.
-Would cost 650 or 750 energy. (1000 seems a bit much to me, but it is completely up to the staff.)
-I'm picturing it as a yellowy block with the gate lining around it. (It could be anything though.)
If you need more explanation as to how it can be coded, just ask.
*If the block is positioned like this:
Filter Block
\ [ ][ ][ ]
[F]
[ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]
It is possible for a troll to stand in the middle and go AFK, clogging it.
If the block is positioned like this:
Filter Block [ ]
\ [ ]
[ ][F][ ] Gravity Arrows
[ ] /
[ ] > > >
[ ][ ][ ][ ]
The gate becomes troll-proof.

I have never considered that use before when this has been suggested before.

-Separating players into teams
isnt that what team blocks are for?

I don't really understand this suggestion.
When a player moves away from the filter block does it become hollow again? If so what's the point of it? Is it timed to become hollow after someone has left the filter block?
can't you just use world switches to do this? You know just place an boost, switch block, switch and done, then the exit can be anywhere with another boost, switch block, and switch.

The problem with this is lag, the clients wouldn't be able to accurately tell if they can enter the block
I guess they could make it so that you need to send a message to enter, then the server sends one back saying whether you can, but this would remove all velocity and would probably be quite annoying to use

cant do an even split
Unless you mean actually counting players, then this is the next best thing (besides a bot obviously)
--any player with a team will go to bottom while players without a team stay on top.

You'd have to actually give them the team in the first place for that to work, which would be where this would be useful (actually splitting them into teams in the first place)
if you use a bit of creative thinking, i reckon you could use crown doors to make it work
The problem is that then you cant use the crown for anything else
I guess there could be a new 'marker' effect, which would act exactly the same as a crown, but not be a crown

Accurate race finishes
If two or more players hit it at exactly the same time, the game randomly chooses what order to let them through.
That's accurate!

What else would you do? You cant let both people in because that would defeat the point of the filter block

I assume it'd look like a key gate with this fella's outline inside --->

As someone who uses a lot of switch mechanics, I consider this needed on such a level. Up until now I have been using crown blocks and an up arrow to give a player a crown to pass through it to sort through it which is surprisingly ineffective. This suggestion not only covers that but adds so many more possibilities.

Well actually you can set a certain amount of spawns corresponding to a color and some corresponding to none then you would have a complete randomized filter that would only let actual player in etc. it also acts as a bot detection system, since bots can't get teams they will get filtered to the none part. There are many different ways to make a "filter" without it being an actual new block.

To clear up confusion:
Xfrogman43
Isn't that what team blocks are for?
The filter block ITSELF does not split players into teams, but rather allows players to be COUNTED (regardless of their team) and then assigned teams. I have tried to make a system to count players before. The system consisted of 1 block wide gaps spaced one block apart. Gravity arrows move the players over the gaps. When a player falls into a gap, they trigger a switch that closes it, meaning the next player goes over that gap and into the next one. The problem with this mechanism is that if two smileys teleport into it at same time, they will both get counted as one player. There is no way to force smileys to be fed through one at a time.
Unless, of course, the filter block is implemented.

I mean that they have to hit it within the same tenth or hundredth of a second. Races don't normally come that close.
