I have added the font into my "fonts" folder, but i can't access this font with gimp. Any ideas?

You tossed it into ~/.fonts right? And then you updated your font cache or rebooted?
I think GNOME Font Viewer can install fonts too if you don't want to mess around with that.

You don't need to use the terminal, just use GNOME Font Viewer. Couldn't be easier, takes less than 30 seconds.
