Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I don't like this. Does this mean that the creative sandbox game of freedom will become as nazi as this forum? Saying a swear will give you "warnings"? Trolling a key in a stairs to code level will ban you for 2 weeks. Telling someone they suck is "flaming" and ban-worthy... etc??

As mentioned by rgl32, swearing is allowed, but why would trolling a key be against the rules? The Staff have made it pretty clear that they allow world vandalism, so repeatedly hitting a key in a broken world, something far less intimidating that destroying an actual world, won't be banned. It would be very difficult to enforce such a rule, so at best your idea is a worst case scenario where the Staff have a sudden change of policy, somehow fail to realize the risks, and completely ignore player feedback.

In the flaming case, I wouldn't blame the Staff for saying that's flaming. Anything meant to insult somebody directly I would consider to be flaming. You can still say what you want, but insulting a user is not needed in almost all cases. As for silly jesting around, I think it should be considered not allowed as long as the person being jested doesn't report it (and as long as that policy is mentioned in the rules which was the main problem I had with Master1's policy). This way, you can only insult the people you trust not to report you. As for jokingly swearing against other users, the rules say directly not to swear at others at all. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that, so feel free to talk to me about it. Maybe I'm biased because I don't jokingly insult my friends with swears. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

Secondly, the long-term plan is to add a more transparent warning system to the game. This means each action has its own consequence worth a certain amount of points. After a certain amount of points, you will be banned for a certain duration of time. You will be notified of this warning and its contents to make sure you know what your warning and its potential consequences entail.

About time.

I don't like this. Does this mean that the creative sandbox game of freedom will become as nazi as this forum? Saying a swear will give you "warnings"? Trolling a key in a stairs to code level will ban you for 2 weeks. Telling someone they suck is "flaming" and ban-worthy... etc??

Well I personally like the way these forums are run. The main thing about moderation in the game that concerned me was that there seemed to be little guidance for moderators apart from the rules, which meant that we had cases where some moderators let things slide which were not actually okay. So I thought we should have a fixed, clear policy for moderation. That way it's easier to see whether moderators are slipping or not. But I think transparency is important as well so the community can make their judgement too.

This announcement tells us there will be a more transparent system. It also says that specific offences have specific consequences with a specific number of points, which is pretty close to that clear moderation policy I was after. Though, we still have an issue where it is difficult to tell whether something is an offence or not. This is unavoidable, but perhaps there should be some discussion between mods on this to define offences more precisely, using examples (decisions that are reached should be added to policy).

Well, if anything, I think drama would make it more active. Otherwise, politics wouldn't be so stable.

Let me set one thing straight here for all of you.

Ignorance of the rules does NOT mean you can break them. When you're pulled over for speeding and you tell the officer "I didn't know what the speed limit was", what are you going to get? A ticket. For speeding.

So when you evade the chat censors, you're going to get banned. For evading the chat censors. Maybe you should have read the rules before doing something like that. The mods aren't "over-modding", they're simply doing their jobs.

ya dude I completely agree with you dude

That's why it's better to knowingly break the rules.

I was referring to the first bit of the quote, the ban system does need a tweak so everyone is clear on what they were banned for and what it would mean if they offend again.

But a warning system sure would come in handy. I can't play today because, well, I got banned, other than that. Everybody makes mistakes.

But asking it to be implemented just because you got banned for doing something stupid seems... well... stupid
