Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

It's dumb and causes drama. There's nothing good that comes of the -rep feature, and if we remove that, +rep is basically just a woot that's tracked. I don't see the reason to carry around 2 separate "like" buttons. Sure you can attach a message to it, but that's not worth the bullying that comes along with adding such a feature. If you have a legitimate criticism of a post, then post in the thread and encourage discussion. A vast majority of -reps right now are direct attacks on the person, spam, or jokes. We're not gaining anything from this feature.
Since we've reached the point where we obviously don't care about a number to track these sorts of things given the addition of rep, why don't we just get rid of it and add a public woot counter for everybody?

After thinking about it for a bit I'd have to agree.
I thought reps were a cool idea at first but with two ways to show support for a post (woots, +reps) and only one way to dislike a post (-rep), -reps are highly prevalent in many rep pages because too few people show support with +reps.
I'd be okay with either removing the woot system (and possibly limiting +/- reps to 1 per post per 5 hours) or removing the rep system.

I looked into it, and I noticed there are a lot of rep changes from the same users on the same post, which isn't supposed to happen (basically the rep checker is being bypassed by Atilla's script)
Back to the point:
Seeing negative rep all over the forums isn't fun to watch, especially when such a system is supposed to have a positive mean, because you know, a community is supposed to be nice and that stuff.
I agree with the woot counter. Most people have at least a bit of woots, and thus wouldn't feel left out of the community because the counter would always be positive.

add down woots - not so muc hspam
require the user to have "points", where every time you receive a woot you get a point, and you can either use that point to -rep somebody or +rep somebudy.
^this will force the user to have a good idea/standing with the community before being allowed to -rep or +rep
heck since -rep is given out way more then +rep, why not make +rep plus 2, and -rep minus 1 or something?
keep rep but fix bullying

Are people still even using rep? I'm pretty sure it mostly died after the first week. I was always against it because I don't think it is necessary and leads to unnecessary hate.
Removing it would be nice.

Oh no rep's gone.
I mean technically it's just hiding but.

So are you going to add woot counter now, Different?

I would rather like a woot counter bellow my profile which keeps tracks on all the woots my posts gained.

I'm genuinely curious what do people on forums prefer to have. Reputation system, woot counter or neither.

I'd rather have neither, less chance for people to post just to get a higher/better number.
Woot counter is pretty useless, unless you include more statistics with it, like woot/posts, most wooted post, could also include posts that yourself woooted also. I know diff had a page that had the most wooted post thing, don't know if it did anything else though. A single number is useless and doesn't benefit to anything at all.

A woot counter could be fun.
Negative rep rarely is used for anything but jokes and the like.

I think woots are more relevant to what you read, as the rating only exists on that post and isn't noted elsewhere; they also can't be used for direct harassment and you don't need to write to say "I like what you have said".

Keep woots relevant and not have a counter.

Yeah I didn't realize that the relevance might fade.
But please keep in mind that I said fun, not useful.

The rep system and woots are similar in that way: people are gonna post more with sarcastic and "trying-to-be funny" posts in an attempt to get woots and +rep.
I think that is the very big flaw in both systems... But. We already have woots, so would a woot counter change the situation a lot?
How about let's just try both options and see how it goes? I mean we already had the reputation system and it didn't turned out good. Let's try woot counter and see how it goes? :/
