Just because someone uses a fallacy doesn't mean they don't have a point, or that they're wrong. If someone begins with "Holy crap how stupid can you be" that doesn't mean that you should automatically yell AD HOMINEM and stuff your fingers in your ears.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I mean, of course if the person still has a point after the ad hominem, the argument continues. But I was referring to a situation where the person runs out of points (which is usually where ad hominem comes in) and just tells the person to screw off or something along those lines, they lose.
