Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

The Grid (highly experimental)

I just had a rough idea for another game and wanted to try this out. I have absolutely no idea how this will go, or if anything actual interesting will even happen. Whatever, let's try it anyways. The game takes place on this grid.

Each dot is a player. Every turn, you have 2 commands to submit. One of those commands is from 4 choices: Up, down, left, and right. Every turn, you shoot a straight line in the direction you moved. Any player who moves into that line for that turn will be damaged for 1 HP. Each player has 3 HP and cannot heal.

The second command is of 2 choices: "Build" and "Break". If you choose to build, the tile where your line ends will fill, becoming a block that players can't travel or shoot through. If you choose to break, the tile your line hits will become an empty space. A break can pierce through 1 tile. Tiles bordering the grid can be broken, so it is possible to dig beyond the initial boundaries. A build will fail if it blocks off one area from the other, the arena has to be continuous. A break will fail if you directly hit a player.

So those are the mechanics of the game. I'm also going to be trying something else a little differently: The commands will be crowdsourced. For each turn I will post a new form to fill out on which dot you are playing for, which direction you are moving in, and if you are building or breaking. In the case of a tie, or a dot with nobody playing for it, or a dot trying to do something impossible, I will let RNG decide what the dot will do. Each turn will last a day.

If the game proves to be interesting I'll start a game with more players and I'll let each person have a dot of their own, rather than using the forms thing. Unless the forms thing ends up being cool, who knows.

So, since there are no signups for this game we can just get right to it!

Re: The Grid (highly experimental)

To clarify: You can expand the grid by making blocks off of the 8x8 area?
Also are you averaging out the commands if more than one person goes for the same dot or what?

Re: The Grid (highly experimental)

^ Yes, essentially. By choosing to break you can kinda dig your way out of the original grid. It's only one block at a time though so it's really slow.

If more than 1 person gives a command for a single dot I'll be choosing whichever command has the most votes for that dot. Ties will be settled by randomly picking between the most voted options.

Re: The Grid (highly experimental)

I don't think I explicitly stated this in the OP which is my bad, but if you shoot another player and you choose to build, a block will be built on a tile adjacent to the player you shot, and you will still damage the player.

Re: The Grid (highly experimental)

pretty sure people can just submit commands for either dot

Re: The Grid (highly experimental)

I have decided I'm not too big a fan of the whole form-submission method, but I do like this game. Expect an 8 player variant sometime with single players controlling dots. I just still need to work out a few kinks regarding game mechanics.
