Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Chris was still the owner and had a system for worlds where you created a world with a super secret key to have full edit rights?
When you left it blank, it created an open world.

Yeah I remember. Unsaved worlds. Why did they remove them anyway?

Not sure. Probably because of those saving bots, they killed the purpose as you can now save by default?

Anyone know when that got changed?

I think this got changed when open worlds went "back to basic" in 2013. I could be wrong though, it's just a hunch.
I feel like it was before that. Probably in one of the lobby redesign updates. I don't think it was SBeam's lobby though, the lobby design after that maybe?

I don't know if I remember correctly, but I remember loving to play on Open Worlds trying to see how much time I have to build a pretty cool place until someone griefed it...good times...

Well those still exist. Unsaved worlds are not the same as open worlds. At the bottom of the lobby there used to be an option to create world. You could set the name of the world and set the code. If you left the code blank, then it would make an open world. If you set a code, it would be like an ordinary world except you didn't have the "Modify level" thing so you couldn't save or change name or anything.

Open worlds were a significant part of the EE culture, they used to be the only type of world. The name "Everybody Edits" surely stemmed from the fact that the game used to be where everyone could edit. Now it's turned into an RPG of sorts (see: campaigns) and seems to have lost the community aspect where you could go into a world and work for or against each other (more-so than just trolling). The problem I feel is that the game went from "make it yourself" to "play something someone already made". The open world system should really be re-vamped, so that we can once again create protected but unsaved worlds, as well as have access to a full set of blocks in open worlds.
I made this thread a while ago to petition a part of this argument, but it didn't result in any changes (though I did get a decent amount of votes): http://forums.everybodyedits.com/viewtopic.php?id=29331

@Irussell
I took that idea further by making the possiblity for the world creator to choose what items can players use inside open worlds by making "classic" items, "all" items, and "custom" items.
Here is my idea, unfourtunately not as popular as I wish it would become:

...o... guess I don't remember unsaved worlds then :/. I guess I'm just sad that open worlds aren't as popular like they used to be...
