Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: Science Project (Be smart for a +rep!)

Alright, well it's too late to test new ideas, and my mom said no more eggs. For some reason eggs are a necessity in my house and we can't buy any more.

I'm going with my tertiary design. Like I said before, I'll leave no aspect to question. In theory it would work perfectly.

At the moment I need a witty name for it. It's basically a cone with three legs attached to the center of the cone, nose down. It kind of looks like a space pod, now that I think about it.

The Egg Pod?

Re: Science Project (Be smart for a +rep!)

Ok, first fifth of my grade halfway done, and it only took me an hour and a half.

Surface area. This is what I don't even... It's too complicated to measure the surface area, was that supposed to be a joke?

One cone, three cylinders, four domes... *sigh*

SA = (((3.14...)(r)(s)+(3.14...)(r)²)) + (3(2(3.14...)(r)²)) + (2 (3.14...)(r)(h))) + (4(2(3.14...)(r)²))

Anyway, here's my checklist:

-Provide a detailed drawing of the internal structure of the package.
-List of materials under consideration. Explain why they are essential.
-Calculate the surface area and volume of package using appropriate formulas and accompanying calculations
-Adequately address why the package did or did not work according to hypotheses.
-Explain how the package can be improved.
-Evaluate the building process and explain how it can be improved.
-Come up with a final design based on observations, research, discussion, conclusions, or recommendations.
-List 3 critical science concepts and explain how they are involved in the egg-drop competition.
-Detailed photographic documentation of testing, building, and testing of the apparatus.
-Egg does not break and the weight of the container without the egg is among the lightest used.

Well, it's soothing to know I'll probably be better than 1/2 my class, because I've been Facebook stalking, and half of them are still freaking out about what idea they should use.

Re: Science Project (Be smart for a +rep!)

Oh this is easy just glue some paper on to the egg and put it in a cup of vinegar, leave it for a few hours, then 7 days (lol). When that time is over take the egg out and drop it.

Like I said earlier, my teacher provides the egg to prevent cheating.

Ok that one is easy, just put more cartons under the egg. Place 3-4 cartons under the egg.And make it hexagon-thats important.,

I hope It would help.

EDIT: The funny thing is; you used the smaller version of the nose-thing that absorbs power. (1st post)
You could use larger version-you musnt see the egg from any side.It would work-I think.

Re: Science Project (Be smart for a +rep!)

He changed the rules and extended it to Oct. 10th.

I now cannot use egg carton material in any way. HOWEVER. I may use tape, string, or anything else that HOLDS THE PAPER TOGETHER. I cannot wrap tape around sheets of paper to strengthen it.

Re: Science Project (Be smart for a +rep!)

this reminds me of something, check it out TakoMan02, maybe you get some better ideas and improvise something, I would use Jamie's idea if I could, in fact with the new rules I think you could use his idea 100% use the tape and paper, easy //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile anyway good luck.

I suggest that you use two different kinds of paper for this. First of all you wrap the egg up in a few layers of toiletpaper, the softness of that paper will give it good protection. To keep this together you should tie a few strings around it. But I would actually suggest using rubberbands and wrap alot of them around it which you then tape over to keep it attached. The elasticity of the rubberband will give some good protection. Then you take normal paper, take some from your printer if you can. Then cover one side of the paper with several layers of tape for some extra protection which you then fold around the egg. Which you use strings or anything else you can think of to attach it to the egg.

There are some kinds of paper thats thicker and weigh more, that could work.

I asked him "what type of paper" and he held up a sheet of printer paper, without saying any words. I'm assuming that means you can't use newspaper or posterboard.

That is outrageous, I dont like your teacher. But if you crease some the paper around that egg that could give some protection.

He made a new rule: you can't use balls of paper to cushion it.

Here's the design I decided to keep: http://localhostr.com/files/jglJ0kf/final_product.jpg

Opinions?

What the **** Your teacher is just... I dont know what to say

Well it's a good design, but I dont think it will work if you dont cushion it a bit more.

Re: Science Project (Be smart for a +rep!)

Your teacher is probably just trolling you. If he sets an assignment, he cant change the rules every two seconds.

Tell him THAT.
