No, the admins can choose the people for the voting committee, just as how RPGMaster chose judges for the contest.

The members will sooner on later be smarter, they will just put a fake reason isnted of saying "HE IS MY FRIEND MAKE HIM A MOD NAO!"

Hmmm. I seriously doubt that most 8-9 year old kids will get smarter and make serious votes any time soon.
If the forum ever does become a democracy with an 'election council' to keep track of legit votes, I'm guessing that about 98% of all the votes will be rubbish.

But yeah, we already made the mistake of selecting mods by the people, let's not do that again. It should be decided by admins, and suggested by mods.

Honestly voting is about popularity. That's the point really. See a democracy can work if you organize right.

First off you should ask who wants to be a moderator. Then set limitations such as, you must have so much forum seniority, you must be reccomended by one current mod, and so on.

Then, all those eligible should be pooled into a primary vote where users vote for their top two favorites. Then each candidate should have to make a speech on why they should be a moderator. Finally there should be a final vote to choose which one to be moderator.

**In the case we need 2 moderators than there should be 4 elected from the primary, and then 2 winners in the end**

This is just based off the U.S. government. Democracies are all about popularity, but that doesn't make it all bad. In fact it could work well if you do it right so I don't see why the forums can't be more democratic.

And that is how you would become a moderator.

While this is a good system, it turns into as popularity contest. It's not the fault of the system, it's the fault of the population. That's exactly what happened with the latest student council elections at my school.

But I believe that is what a democracy is about. Now I know the forums will never be a complete democracy, but I do think since it is made by the fans that it should be a forum for the fans.

The only way it would work though is with both user and administrative cooperation. Of course the users would get their fair share of nominations, but the final judgement should always be made by an admin. Which I'm sure is what would happen anyway. Because then it would be way that supports both community and administrative wants. The forumers get a say in who is running their forum, and the mods get some extra help. All I see is a win-win.

People didn't select the mods though. The admins picked the mods. The people just brought up other people in front of the mods.

THIS. This so much. You could have ten thousand posts and 90% of them could be in forum games, that doesn't mean you'd be a good moderator.

@Takoman02: If you look closely, you can usually get about 1-3 reports a day with misplaced threads and whatnot.
You can also get about 13 reports if there's a raid going on and you're laughing to hard to tell a mod and you want to recite some poetry. -cough-
