Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

You get a +rep for saying this. I seem to run into a lot of noobs who say that X topic should ACTUALLY be in Y forum. No, it shouldn't. You see, this is a FORUM suggestion, not a GAME suggestion. Gets annoying after a while.
I run into this issue quite frequently on other forums. Everyone thinks they know what is right but instead, they are completely wrong on which category the thread is supposed to go to.
Yes, it can be very annoying. I don't even think they read the topic descriptions before assuming they know what goes there. (It's been around a while, but my coach always said When you assume it makes and **** out of u and me. ****+u+me=assume.)

This belongs in Graphics Suggestions.
How can it belong there?
He was making a joke. Different was saying how people are always telling him to move topics to another section when they're completely wrong.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I'd say about 40% of all the posts I make are jokes or have a tone of lightheartedness.

No, but seriously. I think this deserves a sticky. Not demanding a sticky or anything, but this is a very helpful/informational topic. It at least deserves to be added to a 'read this before posting' thing.

I was searching for another thread, but came across this thread instead. Ah... good times, back when I was a technician...
But really, I need to remind a few people about this. [Bump]
I've seen plenty of people -- new or 'elder' -- say things like "this belongs in x" and "inb4block", which bothers me.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I think this is the first time that I've taken the time to read this topic, and, well, how do I put this? It really just seems that you're doing exactly what you're saying NOT to do. But anyway...
I see no reason to stop people from doing this, because it really is just helping. When somebody says "this belongs in x," they're simply pointing it out for future reference. "Inb4lock," on the other hand, is only a sad attempt at a joke.

It's nice and all that you're trying to help, but as jakery + Rurigok + Chewy said:
-You **** off the mods.
-You make yourself look like a busybody
-You should enjoy leaving things to the mods
I really don't appreciate it when members try to act just like mods. Reporting is fine, but ordering a topic to be locked or moved, especially to the wrong place, isn't.
The best thing any non-staff member can do is report a post and not respond to said offending post.
Are you sure you've read the topic thoroughly? I would think that you'd take the opinion of 2 mods and an administrator over your own...
---
And, I don't believe I've done this anytime in the last 5 months. The only time I remember even talking about rule-breaking was when I told Bobithan (or someone) not to say "this belongs in x", which was combined with my on-topic post.

Wow, me of April was a nubcake.
The mods do work hard, so I take that back... I think they do, anyway.
Anyway, this has been more of a problem recently. I mean, you could tell them something like this:
Oh, hey, this should be in x forums [followed by something on-topic]
... and that should just be about the extent of what they should do.
They shouldn't say crap like:
OMG SPAM
NB4LOK!!!
THIS BELONGS IN X. [With nothing else]
YOU GET A WARNING, XUSER.
I think they should be considered spam, and all of them and any instances of mini-modding should be reportable.
Also, saying something should be stickied. No.

I think their arguments are completely irrational, and, therefore, irrelevant.

Oh come on, Tako, you know me better than that!

You may not have noticed, but I was referring to this topic. It seems like this topic was a sly attempt at mini-modding, IMO.
Explain how their arguments are irrational. Seem'd pretty rational to me.
When somebody says "this belongs in x," they're simply pointing it out for future reference.
Yes, and mods can do that too. Actually... I'd say that mods are more correct about things like that than regular members. What if someone "that's just trying to help" says something false? Now, their future reference is false.
What happens if something is in the wrong section? This does:
1) You say "Should be in x."
2) It eventually gets reported.
3) Mod reads report.
4) Mod moves thread.
5) Mod says: "Moved to x."
You're saying information that will eventually be said, you're at the risk of being incorrect and giving the new user false information, and it derails the topic, even if it is combined with an on-topic post.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Yes that was me. And it was about me saying "Zomg gravedig ur gunna get banned" or something like that
What really bothers me now is when people make the pointless posts where they just say "Reported". You don't need to announce it.

"You anger us." "You try to help? How dare you!" Is there anything there that can even be considered an argument? No.

Okay, since it's impossible to be absolutely sure about anything, you're saying that we, as human beings, should never do anything? If we stopped doing things because there's a possibility of being wrong, then we wouldn't ever do anything.
Reporting is mini-modding by definition. If we didn't report, then mods wouldn't notice half of the problems. Therefore, reporting is fine, and, by the transitive property, mini-modding is fine. Funny how I turned this into a proof.
"You anger us." "You try to help? How dare you!" Is there anything there that can even be considered an argument? No.
"You anger us." "You try to help, but instead create more of a problem? Don't."
1) It is possible to be "absolutely sure". That's one of the reasons mods are mods, because they're smart about the forum and know where things belong.
You argue that nobody can be certain, so that makes users more correct than mods? I don't think so.
2) There's a difference between acting like a mod and letting the mod know something. A big difference. I don't see how you can say they're the exactly same and replace them with each other.
You said that reporting brings to attention half the problems, do you think mini-modding increases the amount of problems they see? At all?
No, it doesn't, therefore useless in terms of getting mods' attention, which ultimately is what needs to be done.

Alright, let's just start from square one and I can explain myself like a 4-year-old.
You are not a mod.
You cannot move the topic.
You have no certification that says you are a genius at identifying problems.
There are mods.
Mods have more power than you.
Mods are smarter than you when it comes to the forum.
Mods can move the topic.
And mods will inform the transgressor.
Now, where did you get the idea it would be a brilliantly helpful to inform the transgressor? You - who are not a mod, unable to move the topic, and lesser in intelligence than a mod; a mod that will do what you're about to do at a later date, and only need be done once?
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I think these kind of stuff that people act like is called
BACKSEAT MODERATION
Backseat moderation is a kind of Flaming.
Example:
??? wrote:Mods close this thread and ban him.
That is kind of flaming....
Just to know what it is..
I wouldn't say it's flaming... to an extent, you can say it would aggravate the person it's directed at, but you're not insulting them intentionally.
Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

The funny thing is, that's how life is. You grow old, look back, and think, 'DAMN, I was an idiot', even though you thought you were totally sane at the time. Makes you cringe at how stupid you were.

1) It is possible to be "absolutely sure". That's one of the reasons mods are mods, because they're smart about the forum and know where things belong.
No, it's not. There is always some possible crossover between forum topics. Well, there are some exceptions, but it would take skill to screw those up.
You argue that nobody can be certain, so that makes users more correct than mods? I don't think so.
When did I say that? Please don't turn into one of those noobs who tries to put words into others' mouths. I said that users are rarely less correct than mods. If they were, then this topic would be wrong, for it was made by you, not a mod.
2) There's a difference between acting like a mod and letting the mod know something. A big difference. I don't see how you can say they're the exactly same and replace them with each other.
What's the difference? The only one that I can see is that letting a mod know something takes longer, assuming the person who's acting like a mod is correct.
You said that reporting brings to attention half the problems, do you think mini-modding increases the amount of problems they see? At all?
No, it doesn't, therefore useless in terms of getting mods' attention, which ultimately is what needs to be done.
I agree with you on that, for you're arguing my point. Mini-modding doesn't increase the problems the real mods see, for it actually decreases the problems that they need to see, assuming, once again, that the "mini-modder" is correct.
Alright, let's just start from square one and I can explain myself like a 4-year-old.
You are not a mod.
You cannot move the topic.
You have no certification that says you are a genius at identifying problems.
Um, yeah... and the mods do? Obviously they don't, otherwise there would be no need for a report button.
Now, where did you get the idea it would be a brilliantly helpful to inform the transgressor? You - who are not a mod, unable to move the topic, and lesser in intelligence than a mod; a mod that will do what you're about to do at a later date, and only need be done once?
The lack of grammar makes this confusing... but I can pull out what I believe to be the gist. Again, mini-modding is just getting the job done faster.
"Lesser in intelligence than a mod." Careful, Tako, for that may not be the best phrasing.
Okay, well, I think my main point has been lost, for I didn't intend to defend mini-modding so radically. Mini-modding can be very helpful if executed by anyone with a greater knowledge of the issue than the "transgressor." However, it seems that your argument relies on those who think they have greater knowledge but don't, commonly termed noobs, and, in which case, I agree with you.
Now, where did you get the idea it would be a brilliantly helpful to inform the transgressor? You are not a mod, unable to move the topic, and lesser in forum intelligence than a mod. The mod will do exactly what you're about to do at a later date, and it only needs to be done once.
[...] Again, mini-modding is just getting the job done faster.
I made it easier to understand (I "Americanized" it).
We're not talking about reporting, right? I'd love to hear you explain this one.

You know what I mean
Okay, well, I think my main point has been lost, for I didn't intend to defend mini-modding so radically. Mini-modding can be very helpful if executed by anyone with a greater knowledge of the issue than the "transgressor."
How is it helping if a mod is going to do what you're about to do in the same day?
