Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Mini-modding

Hello forums!

I've made the observation that some people are taking the initiative to perform moderators' duties... don't.
EDIT: ^ I just realized I used a lot of big words in that //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue ^

They basically act JUST like a mod. Here's why it's annoying:
1) It's the mod's job, not yours.

2) It's kinda insulting to a mod because you're basically saying: "Since (mod that is supposed to be moderating topic) isn't doing their job right, I'll do it THE RIGHT way"

3) There's nothing that you can do about it.

4) If you're trying to get noticed as a future mod, it's not working.

"But I'm just trying to be helpful"
Like I said in reason #1, it's the mod's job. They don't need help noticing a troll, because frankly, they're not that hard to spot. Use the report button if you spot a problem.

...that's all I have to say about that topic.

The best thing any non-staff member can do is report a post and not respond to said offending post.

Re: Mini-modding

You get a +rep for saying this. I seem to run into a lot of noobs who say that X topic should ACTUALLY be in Y forum. No, it shouldn't. You see, this is a FORUM suggestion, not a GAME suggestion. Gets annoying after a while.

Whew, I thought I was going to get eaten alive by forum trolls for saying this. Thanks.

Who said the trolls weren't on their way? They were delayed waiting for the shop to order more pitchforks.

I don't see any point of members acting like a mod anyway. One person said that he was gonna warn me or ban me for insulting him, lol and I was like good luck, ****.

This. So many times. Although I'm not a mod, I can tell you that it works well. Even if it's not a ban or warning (e.g. it needs to be moved, or you want the title changed (btw, thanks chewy)). Also, see the rules. "Use the report system! Seriously, it works great."

Everyone should listen to this wise man, he speaks the truth.   I really don't appreciate it when members try to act just like mods.   Reporting is fine, but ordering a topic to be locked or moved, especially to the wrong place, isn't.

Re: Mini-modding

i say that when we see a troll, we just report and wait till the mods come on. all 3 troll raids i saw on these forums lasted around 10 minutes and as soon as the mods came on, they got all their posts deleted.

Re: Mini-modding

Look, telling someone you shouldn't doublepost or gravedig is fine, but ordering a moderator to do something or trying to be one yourself (e.g. "mods, move this topic to xxxxx", or "mods, this topic should be locked", or "hey don't post on my topic or i'll make the mods to ban you") is frowned upon.

Yeah, I used to do it every now and again. But now that I've seen other people do it, and how annoying it is, I shall no longer!

Wait... PLENTY of times? Name three times where I've commanded a mod to do something... three.

EDIT: And I'm not rude about it, like some people are.

Re: Mini-modding

It's foolish on three levels to say, "mods, please [xyz]."

-You **** off the mods.
-You make yourself look like a busybody
-You should enjoy leaving things to the mods

Say someone who obviously didn't click the "Read this first" thread--or even the rules--makes a dumb post.   I don't reply to the thread; I roll my eyes and think to myself, "A mod will deal with this," and then I forget all about it. This is a good thing. The most frustrating thing you can do online is forum modding.

Yeah at first I thought it stood for something, then I realized it was a phrase conjoined without vowels. I say "lrn2bbcode" or "lrn2spell" sometimes. Pointless comments like those, however, I agree are annoying.

Well, you know, it's not like the mods actually do much of anything besides horse around. [The admins, on the other hand....]
Plus, if you don't point someone to the right forum, they'll keep making the same mistake, which leaves the mods to move every single misplaced thread.

Are you suggesting we haven't done anything since becoming mods?
