Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

How does the ban/warning system works?

Is someone good at explaining stuff? //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile Or is there an explanation somewhere?

Re: How does the ban/warning system works?

1. You get reported.
2. You get banned.

Somewhere in between those steps there is a moderator that gets a chat log.
The tool they use is actually visible on the wiki.

Well I was actually talking about the forum ban system, this thread is in forum discussion. The ban system in EE isn't really complicated.

Re: How does the ban/warning system works?

When you get a warning, the number of points are added to your total, then if you have 3 or more you get banned a certain amount of time depending on how many you have

Re: How does the ban/warning system works?

This forum have warnings. Almost every warning have different points and lengths. I'll post the ban length in days. Bans are automatic. Have you got a warning a total of:
1 or 2 point(s): nothing.
3, 4 or 5 points: you got an 1 day ban.
6, 7 or 8 points: you got a 3 day ban.
9, 10 or 11 points: you got a 7 day ban.
12, 13 or 14 points: you got a 30 day ban.
15, 16 or 17 points: you got a 90 day ban.
18 or more points: you got a 180 day ban.

you can also find it on https://forums.everybodyedits.com/warnings.php

When a mod gets a report, they decide whether or not the post breaks a rule
If it does, mod gives a warning to that post
The warning adds points to your profile
If the system sees that you have too many points, it bans you for an amount of time based on how many points you have
First 2 points (worth about one to two small warnings) are free
Warnings expire over time
Ban lengths typically step up for every 3 more points you get, but it won't go past 6 months
Because of the way warnings expire, it'd take active effort to make it to that point

Mysterion have a 6 month ban. (180 days)

edit: getting a 3 month ban is also very hard.

Re: How does the ban/warning system works?

Most of the people who rack up huge numbers of points do it by earning points even while they're banned. They just won't stop making alt accounts.

can we have some sort of highscores list for highest ban periods
or a list of people that managed to get a 6 month ban

Re: How does the ban/warning system works?

the possible max ban is only 1 month. 3 months is very rare and 6 months is very very very rare

That info technically exists but getting it is too much effort. Bans are erased when they expire.

the ban lengths on here are plenty lenient, if you're building up enough to get the super long bans you're a foolio and it's pretty clearly your own fault

like, you could literally take over an admin account twice and get banned like a week in total if you left enough time in between violations

Warnings/ban length info can be found on this page (you can get to it by clicking Rules and it’s the first hyperlink at the bottom).

the system hasn't been changed.

this page shows the current figures that the forums are using as we speak.

Re: How does the ban/warning system works?

I think this all makes sense.

So if you get a warning with 3 or more points you will get banned immediately? And flaming will result in a 1 day ban (if you have 0 points)?
Now I also realize that reaching 18 points is very hard, and the ban system isn't that strict. Only people who don't learn will get banned for long periods.

actaully its not hard to get 18 points at all, i know someone who been banned for a year or more and i even been banned for 6 weeks before and the warnings never went away

right, it's lenient towards people who break rarely break rules, but it gets impatient with others. Someone with a lot of points will get a decent sized ban for even small stuff, because system focuses on frequency/severity overall, not individual infractions.
