Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Facebook drops Flash

4chan wrote:

ITS HAPPENING!!!!

Adobe Systems Inc.’s Flash language for Web design has been dying for years. Facebook Inc.’s chief security officer wants a kill date.

>The legacy websites that are still using Flash, entangled with newer types of coding, are causing security issues for the Web at large, Facebook’s Alex Stamos said. Yet some developers don’t have enough motivation to upgrade their sites because they expect Adobe to support Flash forever, he said.

>Last week, a 400GB cache of files stolen from spyware company Hacking Team revealed a major vulnerability in Flash that allowed hackers to execute malicious code on a target's machine via a website. Although Adobe quickly issued a patch to fix the problem, Hacking Team's internal memos describe the flaw as "the most beautiful Flash bug for the last four years," suggesting it had been known about — and used — for some time previously. This is far from an isolated incident: two additional vulnerabilities for Flash were found in the same 400GB trove in the following days, and earlier this year, Adobe was forced to release emergency security updates in both February and January.

REMINDER THAT IT IS VULNERABLE AGAIN AS OF TODAY EVEN AFTER THE RECENT PATCH!!!

>FLASH WILL DIE IN OUR LIFETIME

What do you think will happen when Goybook drops flash like Youtube and Apple? Will it be finally kill?

@4chan /g/ thread [archived]

And Firefox and Chrome will start to block Flash soon, if Facebook stops supporting Flash, won't EE in Facebook die? And if browsers slowly starts to block it, shouldn't we switch from Flash to HTML5?

<NOTE: This has to do with EE because it runs with Flash, so I posted it in Game Discussion, if any moderator disagrees with this, feel free to move it to off-topic>

Yes! Finally, those annoying seizure bg changing levels are gone!

(*cough, flashbang, cough*)

So, does this mean that HTML5 is the next update, since it's EE's HUGEST update?

Idk, switching to HTML5 would definitely be huge but there isn't a PlayerIO client for HTML5. It's been in the works for 4 years, but it doesn't exist yet. They'd have to either port the client to javascript or get away from PlayerIO. Porting it (and moving to HTML5 in general, at least at the moment) doesn't seem likely because it kinda feels like this has basically been abandoned, and getting away from PlayerIO would be difficult with all the data they have stored there, and IIRC lrussell said something on here the other day about Processor looking for a more efficient way of storing world data, which wouldn't be necessary if they were abandoning PlayerIO.

PepperFlash is developed and maintained by Google. HTML5 is way better and PepperFlash only works for Chrome & Chromium.

And IceWeasel but that doesn't actually change all that much so nevermind about that actually.

Re: Facebook drops Flash

Wait I just remembered. If Chrome drops flash then I don't have to worry about these stupid ads for a while. They are all running on flash //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/big_smile

EDIT: Most of them.

Nope, you'll still have ads. Chrome has already mostly dropped flash and is using PepperFlash, which is going to stick around for a while AFAIK.
