Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I know a lot of you are not very religious, but for those of you who are, like me, you can discuss the real meaning here.
I said this in another topic:
It's not Christmas Love. Flip the "m".
Christ was love.

Yea it seems only a few of us (including me) actually celebrate christmas religiously

Christmas can hardly be called a religious holiday anymore. Look at the way its commercialized. Going through a month of shopping, baking, and getting gifts for other people really isn't a good way to celebrate Jesus' birthday is it? (I'm not religious either)

Since when was Christmas about Jesus?
I mean really: It's commercialized like crazy, and plus, it's not even on Jesus' birthday.
Actually, nobody knows when his birthday is

Its a day to celebrate his birth.
Actually, nobody knows when his birthday is
Wrong, He was born on the 3rd of September...
Since when was Christmas about Jesus?
I dunno, since it started being celebrated?

Pretty much, If you did not know what the word "Christmas" meant, it means the "Mass of Christ" So if you did not know it was about Jesus, than that's a bit silly..
Ooh, this is going to be fun. Not sure is I should close it. Please keep it civil, guys.

Coincidences...
Since when was Christmas about Jesus?
 I don't know, since it was first celebrated maybe?

Proof?

Well if you put all of the proof together in the bible you can figure out when he was born... It's not big news..
Guys, I know that it is hugely commercialized, that is why I made this topic! So that us religous folks could discuss it!
Also, know one even knows what year Jesus was born, we only have a rough estimate that can spans almost 3 years.
@Chewy: I know it's a coincedence, that is why I did that.
So please, no more talking about how it is commercialized, we all know that, only talking about religousness. Talk about commercialization in another topic...
I'm not religious.. But I'm just pointing out some valid stuff...

It wasn't really valid though. No one knows when he was born exactly. The monk who made the calender kind of messed up a bit. But he was close enough.
Also, time for your (41st? 40th?) + rep.
Even religious people don't celebrate Christmas for the sole purpose of Christ's birth. It's more like "the day of hedonism which also just so happens to be what we think was Christ's birth so we might as well celebrate that as well".

I'm sorry, but that was really corny. :]

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

I'm interested to know if you're suggesting that the religious meaning is the only 'real' one.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
No one knows when he was born exactly.
Or even if he was born?

If some archaeologist found a gravestone with someone's name on it, do you think they [whoever was on the gravestone] would exist? Same story with Jesus, except more like finding 1000 recordings of him.
Now, as far as him doing miracles and whatnot is beyond me, but I'm mostly positive he existed.

Depends if that archaeologist was actually a priest who conveniently found it in the back of his church. This is about christianity, right? Their jesus liked to walk around and defy all sorts of physics, logic, and reason. Did he exist? Certainly not. Did some ordinary guy called Jesus exist back then? Sure, maybe.

@Twipply: You just had to come into this topic, didn't you?
I say "real" because Christmas wasn't started as something for people to give gifts to each other, it was started to celebrate the birth of Jesus. So, although both are real, that is what I meant, and I think everyone understood that.
Jesus was born, but other religions argue if he was God, so yes, he was born.
I'm assuming you're an atheist here, otherwise you'd be a hypocrite. One thing you should know: Never insult someone's religion. My beliefs may differ from yours, but that doesn't mean I have to insult you. Someone's religion is someone's religion, if no one believed in it then it wouldn't exist anymore.

Giving gifts is pagan. Just so you know.
[So are Christmas Trees.]
Also, it's only insulting if you see it as such.

Gift giving on Christmas comes from the giving of Myrrh, Frankincense, and gold to the baby Jesus.
