As a continuation of another thread where maxi123 asked a similar question...
What are ways to make levels difficult?
(Either fun hard or annoying hard, most of that's subjective anyway.)
Some stuff I can think of:
- Requiring multiple jumps in a row (double jumps, triple jumps, etc).
- Adding time limits, for example with keys/gates/doors or with timed/zombie blocks.
- Arrows that the player needs to traverse at precise speeds while using spacebar+arrows.
- Illusions.
- Puzzles.
- Precision jumping.
- Many hazards and few save points.
- Maze-like levels.

- Lots of 1x1 hooks everywhere (mentioned by Luka504) or 1x1 spaces in a row.
- Eyesores (mentioned by minimania).

EE is an entertaining game and I enjoyed playing it...

I think that's barely an illusion though. There's no creativity here, it just uses secret blocks. A real illusion should be figured out if the player is smart enough and stares at it long enough, rather than have to play it and find the hidden things.

I think difficulty shouldn't really be the main focus when creating a minigame, but it should be the creativeness, originality, and fun-ness. Difficulty [insert doesn't equal sign] Fun. I mean sure, its fine to make difficult levels, but it shouldn't be your main focus.

I think this topic is more of a "how to make a challenge" rather than specifically making very difficult challenges. But really the name just comes from a comment that someone made in another topic.

One type of illusion is the red herring illusion, where there are blocks everywhere, but you can't land on any of them.
