What happened to EE?

I have just came back to ee to see how everything was going expecting the game to be much better but what i found was not many people were playing and all the fun levels are gone and replaced by zombies and coins or something, Is there anything else that has changed that i am not aware of?

It just gets worse with every update.   You missed some bad ones.   Turn back while you can.

While you were away TI:1 infiltrated the EE game code and filled the game with horrible updates under the
alias "Mr Shoe".

Re: What happened to EE?

This is specifically what happened:

Woots (Wednesday, November 14th, 2012):
"woot is happening?
Welcome to a world of woots, levels and praises! Find the hidden woots, level up and show your respect to the builders.
In Beta now, public release 21st of November"

So, everything goes to hell beyond that point, more notably the userbase.

And recently:
MrShoes holiday (June 18th, 2013):
"MrShoe is on holiday, so I run Everybody Edits now!
So NO MORE MAGIC DECAY!
That's right! Just keep all the magic you find.
Also, sale and a summergirl in the shop :-)
-MrVoid"

And what is going to happen in the future (very soon, SPOILER!):

highlight to read: [
MrVoid is apparently going on a holiday, and there's going to be anti-gravity potions.

Lighten up dude, it was a joke. Except for the part about the horrible updates, those are real.

Oh my, coming back in a year? By then it will just be a burning wasteland where MrShoe is overlord of the smileys and Hackers roam the lands searching for noobs to feast on.

(Wow EE is ruined... '~')

Unfortunately the massive drop in userbase disagrees, this game is generally disliked now.

I'm fine with EE right now. Not a die-hard fan of the newer updates but it's still fine for me. Only it seems less exciting than before, that is.

EE's quality has plummeted ever since the developers got money-hungry with Builder's Club.

Re: What happened to EE?

You want to know why there are less people online? Because the playerbase decided that instead of creating levels, they prefer to spend their time complaining about petty things like magic and builder's club.

Things that impede on you creating a level:
- physics changes
- (bad) gameplay mechanics that are forced upon you (i.e., physics)

Things that the community complains about and refuses to create levels because of:
- conceivably, anything
- not physics changes

The game itself is better than it ever has been. We have so many new mechanics that make the game infinitely better and most of you take it for granted.

It's insanely pathetic, and honestly I'm disappointed at how we're given everything on a silver platter and we decide that the game is complete garbage because a handful of people get to place extra blocks and you don't like that little coin animation that pops up whenever you get a magic coin.

What happened? It improved, and the playerbase corrupted themselves with their aversion to change. I should've expected that.

Re: What happened to EE?

TakoMan02, I see your point of view. I've thought that Julian's creations have brought us the better, by giving us new ways to make levels, with the new ladders, liquids, time doors, etc. This game could be a lot better than it was a long time ago, but 'tis sadly not, due to how these players could make wonderful pieces of art, but sit their to complain at their gifts?

What bugs me most in Everybody Edits is the community. Those who have the ability to make great pieces of artwork don't get the spotlight, but those who make modern nonsense make lots more levels then the more talented, meaning that there is more of this. Players can make the best pieces of artwork, but it is thought of as "too hard," while in reality, it is worth it to do so.

I cannot get over the community until they become peaceful and graceful like in the old days.

I don't know why I'm disappointed.

People tend to complain about anything.   I've seen some people complain about level sorting tabs coming "too late" even though they like them.   They came a week, maybe two, after woots came out.

The only thing I think is worth being **** off at is when decorations lost their minimap color.   Ozone told me one of the winners of one of the level contests rage quitted because one week after the contest ended, the colors were removed, which destroyed the art in the map.

I don't like how Builder's Club is right now and I think magic/woots need some fixing up, but they do not effect the fun you can get out of this game.   I remember back when we were just the default smileys with the starter blocks only.   No backwalls, no decorations, no usernames even.   And the game was still fun then.   I took a couple year absent and came back to most of what's in the shop today.. it was incredible.   And I'm a bit confused as how people complained about updates rarely happening but now they complain about how too often they are.. though they've stopped for awhile.   But like I said, people will complain about anything, even if it's a good change.   I dunno, maybe it's just the nostalgic factor?   But just because something is new doesn't make it worse.

And I agree, it's not the game that's become rotten, it's the community.   There are still a lot of good players, though there are the negative ones who complain so much and say how bad the game is.. well if the game is so bad, why are they still here?   If you don't like something, you don't need to play it.   Don't complain and upset the ones who do enjoy it.   People need to stop spreading their negativity.   I've actually left the forums a few times because of it.   Still play the game, but avoid the forums due to too much negativity here.

Re: What happened to EE?

Amen. Preach. Hallelujah.

I 100% agree with everything AzurePudding said.

The community in this game is awful at times. No matter what the developers do, its complaincomplaincomplain.

I know, I have been somewhat vocal about some of the updates, but I dont complain about EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Like some of you.

Seriously guys, its a game. Chris made it to get money. He didn't make it for people to play for free. He didn't make it especially for this specific community to enjoy. He made it for profit, and probably for experience.

EE definitely has gone down the tubes, but just roll with the punches, or leave.

Thats the way the world works. People do things for money. Grow up.

EE has really lost it's grip. by that i mean it used to actually be about good building and fun, now   Everybody Edits is corrupt with bots, people with autobuilders, copiers. I just don't see the point anymore... There's no fair contest

Bots.   So?   Most bots make for fun, new kinds of levels.   What's wrong with that?

Autobuilders.   So?   Because if something is built block by block, it magically is more fun than if it was automatically made by some bot/program?

Copiers.   So?   They may be annoying for the original level makers, but if it's the same level, what's different for the player?   If level maker names were hidden, you wouldn't notice a thing.   This should not effect your gameplay at all.

Since when was level making a contest.. outside of level contests?   Make levels for fun.   That's what you do when playing a game.   Do things for fun.

Honestly it's people like you who are dragging this game down.   Negative views on everything, even on things that don't effect the game in a bad way.   The game is still the same as it was a couple years ago, except with more blocks (and physic blocks such as coindoors and water, which hey, aren't bad!), but the community who complains about every moot thing is what's gone spoiled.

That phrase just explained to me why Be A Computer Virus (One lvl of mine) is hated by alot of people.

Also, just like others, i am forced into agreeing with tako. I mean, we got portals, a new magic coin system, we DID have something bad (Magic duration), but later it got removed.

But then look!

Person 1 joins the game.
Person 2 joins the game.
Person 1 just built a house with glass blocks.
Person 2 just built a house with beta blocks.
Person 1 says ''Hey! This guy has beta blocks! I quit this game!''
Person 1 quits the game forever.

Just because somebody has an extra advantage than you doesn't mean you must quit.
With that logic, you should quit all multiplayer games in an instant because people with high levels got extra advantages.
What if the game your playing was the best game ever, but you just quit like Person 1 in the above example?
You would be the loser.
The rest are the winners, who are playing a masterpiece.
I am not saying EE is a masterpiece, but it is a good game if you put effort.
That's all i wanted to say. Thank you if you actually read this.

Re: What happened to EE?

I agree with you guys.

TakoMan, you're right. There's new features, blocks of ANY kind, even new services added once in a while, and while I'm not excited with some of these things (I have to thank MrVoid for removing one of them, which is the Magic Decay), these other features can be interesting.

And there's the community - the downside of today's EE. Not only because you all complain for what MrShoe and MrVoid offers to you. You also complain about many things - the quality of EE's levels, the newcomers/"nubs"...

Seriously guys. Stop. Complaining does nothing. You're doing nothing by complaining. Heck even 2/3 of this forumify thing just goes nutso when some "bad update" happens. For example, you've wanted chat for free for a long time, and when it's finally here, you complain about it going like "omg dis update sux"... No. Just no.

Let me tell you something. Instead of complaining, GET ON YOUR FEET AND ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING. Because the real motivation for both Chris, MrShoe and MrVoid are, alongside money, its entire community. And when this community becomes active in the development of EE, many things can happen.

Really guys. Stop complaining. It's not gonna change a single thing, for Chuck's sake.

If someone posts a tl;dr version of this rant, thank you.

If you falied to get what I mean... I'm really sorry.

Re: What happened to EE?

In my opinion, EE lost it's charm. This was bound to happen, but the community... I don't know how to explain it. It's too hard to explain. Many things happened, and now EE isn't what it was.

Addition:
Look at Tako's post. He does a great job with explaining things.

Addition v2:

Holy cow. Tako, you are right on spot about the community.

TakoMan2 wrote:

The funny thing is how what your message said is the way I feel about other things, too. That is kind of how I feel people reacted to Windows 8. I see Windows 8 as giving so many features (SkyDrive sync, unified platform experience, free 8.1 update, I could go on) and different ways of computing, and here we are with all of the bashing of Microsoft (Headline: Surface Pro with full Windows OS on discount, but a cheap android/Google tablet is better) and hating of the Start Menu and the hundreds of thumbs-ups when people say "WINDOWS 8 IS (insert expletives here)!!!" without any intelligent discussion, and we complain about these things so much that we are blinded to the other features.

I know I'm getting a little off-topic, but what you said is true and sad. I do think the community lost something. I also think that Chris should've seen it coming, too. My main guess is that this happened in part because of the lack of updates for five(?) months, and lack of updates with guaranteed positive reception (world portals, invisible portals, text signs, zombies(?), etc).

So this is where EE is now, and I don't know down which rail we are going.

@NR2001 I'm not a BIG fan of Windows 8, but I think you're kinda right about it. Good job on trying to relate it with this problem.
