Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

Making a topic in Russian for fun is considered 'abuse', here?

I wonder how they signed up for the forums, in that case.

Your little Russian topic is abuse because, for one, all of you actually speak English, and the moderators don't need to live on google translate just to mod a topic when there is a better solution available.   In all my time, I've seen like 2 non-English topics.   It's not a big problem.

If you know English, post in it.

Put yourself in a moderator's shoes before you question one.

It's not abuse because it's "fun", it's abuse because it's hard to moderate. It would be different if we actually knew how to speak Russian instead of using Google Translate, like Riru said above.

Yeah, well, you know that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

We seriously need some enforcement against posts saying "[opinion] idea [smiley]". They should count as spam, since they don't do anything at all.

Obligatory piece of text placed here forcing you to load an extra 100 bytes of data per post I make.

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

Yeah, I was partially to blame for the "Follow OP's Language" idea. Here was my draft of the rule:

Non-english replies (aka "exotic spam"): "Unless a thread specifically calls for replies in foreign languages, no foreign language posts inside English threads."

And here was my reaction to the Russian language thread:

I thought the "follow OP's language" rule was a good compromise, but I didn't think it through:
http://eeforumify.com/viewtopic.php?id=9807

I don't want to live in Google Translate just to moderate threads. I'm in favor of requiring English for all posts. Some users oppose this rule, but they haven't made a compelling case for a multilingual forum.

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

Clarify the clarification:

When you create a topic, create it in your first language. All posters on that topic must speak back in that language.

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

^^ Even that won't work. I'm willing to bet that Benjaminsen's first language is Danish. //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/wink

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

O.o true... But then Benjaminsen won't have to translate into english. And RPG most likely can read it without a translator?

Re: Rules Clarification and other stuff

I say "we all post in our native languages" makes sense.   If Benjaminsen wants to speak Danish and RPGmaster2000 wants to speak Swedish, let them.   In Chris' case, us using Google Translate would probably be better than him speaking English.   Him using "where" for "were" is getting annoying.   jhRFy.png

We are now banning any accounts found to be using any sort of web proxy.

What if i use an USA proxy to get the "american" surveys (they're better) in SuperRewards and accidentaly use the forums at the same time?

Then we probably ban the proxy, not the user (you)

At the moment, we are checking the IP you used to sign up.   If you signed up under the proxy, then that's a mistake we hope you don't make.

Of course, if the person is pretty active and isn't a spam bot, we probably wouldn't ban the user.
