the graphical particle directional flip is not enough to make this feature comprehensible.
It seems that the Flip option is a vestige that only made sense for the previous version of portal mechanics for EEU, now those seems to be completely redundant.
You can pretty much do the exact same stuff without the need of flipping portals. This feature is very hard to understand, counterintuitive.
In-game (for game-players perspective) this feature makes things really hard to understand.
I would rather have other advanced settings for portals that actually added more depth to the uses of portals than just flipping their direction.
I think it's there to make this sort of movement possible:

You are right, I tried it without inverting portals, and the result was that portals go in the inverse direction.
I guess this setting might go in the right direction of advanced customization for action tools.
I am still not convinced of the way it is documented and presented in-game, its effect should be more graphically noticeable, and for the builder easier to understand.
