Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

The State of Everybody Edits on Kongregate

Due to recent events, there are essentially three broad groups that the community has split itself into: the people who believe that EE is still alive since it is on Kongregate and should remain there, the people who believe that EE should be completely shut down and is essentially dead until the release of EEU, and the people who believe that EE has already passed the point of no return and is dying a slow and painful death with EEU nowhere in sight. I consider myself to be part of the second group, and what I am posting here is a perfect example of why the current EE is already dead. Today, I decided to check out the state of my worlds on Kongregate. As someone without a Kongregate account, I did this the hard way (and the only way I knew to do so, though I'm sure easier ways exist). I created a Kongregate account, made an EE account called Raphe2, and did a ton of campaigns until I could afford a world portal. Using said world portal, I inputted the level ID of one of my levels I uploaded into my small archive of Everybody Edits levels. This gave me access to my crew and profile which I used to see if any of my public worlds were affected by the hackers. Lo and behold, I found a single world.

During the era when the biggest controversy in the community's mind was AK712 and his Christian world '- The Only Way' and other worlds that got him banned for containing anti-gay propaganda, I jokingly created a parody world called '- The Onlyer Way', a Pastafarian world styled after AK's world. It was in a rather small world, and its only significance to this topic is that it was the one level to be hacked. Most people here already know what happens to a level when it is hacked: it has all effects and related blocks removed, and an image of pornography is loaded into the world. Despite cries from the community, these levels are still readily accessible. Some of you may know what this looks like because Peace showed us an image of a world minimap with **** inserted into it by the hackers. However, this image was rightfully removed by the forum staff due to not censoring out said pornography. On top of that, the image was rather unclear, and Peace forgot to put the thing into a trigger warning at first (which doesn't make it less against the rules). Now that I too have stumbled across one of these worlds with a much clearer picture, I have captured it and edited it to remove any material that would be readily deemed too inappropriate with an easy censor box. I made sure with Diff that this did not break the rules, and I am putting this in a content warning since what it is supposed to be is obvious and should not have to be seen by anyone who is uncomfortable with said content even if censored. I will say though that all you can really see is a guy's stomach.

Censored image of world and minimap, expand at your own risk. Image is also large.

Ya, that wasn't fun to come across. The worst thing to was that I couldn't private the world since my account lies on the main site which only redirects to the Kongregate page, so someone else had to see it too. He actually knew more about what was happening though and shared his opinions about how it's a shame that the game has reached this point and is still up. This is clearly a common issue, and yet nothing clear is being done about it. I will not be linking to the world since I would basically be linking to ****. I hope this is understandable.

Here's a few more interesting details I have:

  • The world size has been expanded to fit the content.

  • All my other public worlds seem to be untouched.

  • Real blocks are used to make the images, but they are completely intangible as seen in this safe for work image.

Back to the groups that EE has split itself into, I feel that closing EE on Kongregate will actually bring more people into the second group who believes EE is dead until EEU whilst keeping it open would only bring people into the third group. In its current state, EE on Kongregate has reached the perfect balance of being both an undermoderated mess with **** everywhere and a glorious example of the fact the staff putting too much time into life support for the previous game instead of directing all of its resources into Everybody Edits Universe. I understand that EE players will continue to diminish without a single place to play the game, but I think that is better than letting it diminish because it is known for showing little kids on Kongregate ****. As far as I see it, the only true way to fix the **** issue is to focus less on EEU and EEO, and the number one priority should be making sure that those games see the light of day.

Xenonetix, I understand how stressful this is, but I urge you to shut the game down on Kongregate or at least make it where all that can be played is a select number of worlds like campaigns. This needed to be posted because people need to see with their own eyes what their worlds have become. Thank you for trying your hardest with this game, but you need to accept that it's better to end things now before they get worse, even if it makes it look like you lost. On a side note, thank you to Diff for allowing me to post the image since it could fall under the 'Inappropriate' or 'Inappropriate Minor' with a stricter interpretation of the forum's rules.

EDIT: All worlds have seemingly been restored, so the urgency of this issue is no more. Many of my points are still relevant, but I feel obligation to give credit where it's due.

Plot twist: AK712 is the culprit, he got very offended for getting banned for christianity posts and worlds, so he decided to do Satanistic act to EE to bring their end. Holy ****, I can't think anyone else that looks very suspicious than him. Might be /s but might be not idk

That would be ironic in a funny way, but I highly doubt it since it would mean that he went from calling homosexuality a sin to posting pictures of naked men in the game.

Really anyone should be able to see that naked men are a sin on the internet just in general.

I'm glad I backed up all of my worlds before this breach haha

It'd really suck to lose literally all of your hard work like this if there was no way of getting it back y'know?

Re: The State of Everybody Edits on Kongregate

We've already lost the main site. So EE lost like 85% of players already. What's the point in keeping up a **** riddled hacked game with only like 6 people online?

Re: The State of Everybody Edits on Kongregate

I already lost my account since Everybody Edit’s on Kongregate doesn’t accept logins from non-kongregate based accounts. That doesn’t mean i’m going to dissapear and never play EEU, but it does mean i’m never going to play normal EE ever again. I just lost all of my worlds, content, blocks, etc. The EE staff even said they wouldn’t relaunch the game from the main website. What the hell is the point in keeping a game filled with disgusting **** and gore open to a underage audience going to achieve? It’s going to make people less likely to play EEU when they see that god awful mess the game has become. "Let’s play the sequel to a game that has compromised security and **** all of my accounts which uses the same password and email!" Yeah right. EE on kongregate is nothing but a liability. An embarrassment. Kill it now.

Re: The State of Everybody Edits on Kongregate

Shut it down. There's no point in saving this crappy outdated flash game, especially with EEU just around the corner (or so it is believed). Trying to fix things now is only going to slow down EEU's release and increase the risk of more severe data breaches, even with only a few select number of worlds available. Keeping the game up to maintain the playerbase (or at least, what's still left of it) is not a valid excuse if there are potentially harmful security risks!

Don't make it harder than it already is. Get rid of it. Work your butts off and release a fresh, fun, and secure game for everyone to play. Advertise the heck out of it, get people interested, and approach content creators. Take your time; rushing it will only result into mistakes being made.

Oh yeah, I did. But that doesn't give you the right to take away my opinion on this particular situation by telling me to "shut up". Besides, we're talking about the future of this game, not the past. Maybe you should try to contribute on the matter instead of making comments about what already happened that nobody gives a crap about anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just saying.

Also, if you even took the time to read my post; would you keep a game up that has serious security flaws and disturbing content? I wouldn't. Especially not if EEU is already on its way. Not even worth fixing it, just move on //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/tongue

It's not like if we shut down ee nobody is going to play eeu. There is a public discord server with lots of people so it's not like if we remove ee from kong we're going to lose the 'last 5' people for eeu. There is no reason to keep it up if there are 5 kids in worlds filled with ****. It'd be sad for the 5 people that they can't play but if every campaign world has **** in it and is unbeatable what's the point of even keeping it open.

I think keeping this on  for a little longer would make some people very happy since this isint the way how the orginal EE should go to its end.

Not like we can come back. What's the point of keeping the game up if 5 people play on it and they can't play because most worlds have **** in it.

Peace, please refer to this:

But staff is not clearly doing anything, and I don't think 15% of the playerbase would completely quit the game because they can't play a version of it full of ****. Removing the game from Kongregate won't magically decrease EEU's playerbase to 5.

LIATRI42 wrote:

He knows what he's talking about, and his opinion is just as valid if not more than the average player's. Flaming any staff, previous or current, is not going to change anyone's mind.

Ruben101 wrote:

Ya, gatekeeping the game is what's gonna make it succeed. Not like we have a critically low number of players or anything.

Ruben101 wrote:

Like it or not, the original EE has already ended. All that's left is a few players on worlds riddled with ****, and keeping the game up isn't going to magically change that.

Re: The State of Everybody Edits on Kongregate

An update on our current situation:

We've been working on restoring the worlds that were compromised on and off for the last couple of weeks now (alongside the other security concerns as well as EEU), we believe that we've now cleared up the majority of the images, which in the end ended up being over 15000 worlds.

We are also looking into ways to ensure that the EE client is secure, so that we can bring the main site online, and we believe we've found a way to circumvent the security problems so that you can continue to play EE until the closed beta has finished and have moved to the open beta stage, and so that we don't waste too much of our time working on EE when we could be working on finishing EEU sooner.

We hope to be able to bring the game back up within the next couple of weeks, and I'll try to keep you updated as we go //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile
