Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Thought experiment.

You find yourself standing in a big white room with 2 noteworthy objects.

There's a door and a pedestal with a huge red button on it.

The door is the exit. Walking through it will put you back into the computer seat you are sitting on, allowing you to move on with your life. However, it is one way only. So you can never return to this room.

The pedestal with the big red button however, has a note on top of it. It reads:

"This button is the self-destruct sequence for the universe. Pressing it will end all life, all physical matter, protons, neutrons, electrons, temperature, time, everything.
The entire universe will be returned to an state of absolute zero, and stay that way for all of eternity.
The process is entirely painless for all living individual as it's effect is instantaneous. There will no longer be any pain, sorrow, hatred, crime, murder, hunger, life.
On the other hand, there will no longer be any happiness, love, friendship, dreams, thoughts, existence."

You have a one time chance to forever end the universe by the simple tap of a button. Or, you may simply walk away, keeping the universe functioning just as it is now. It is a big decision, you are deciding whether all that is good and bad with the world is to continue.

Would - you - press - it?

Why?

Why not?

Re: Thought experiment.

Nah.

It’d be a waste of all the time and effort put into getting to that point, on a universal scale.

One bot to rule them all, one bot to find them. One bot to bring them all... and with this cliché blind them.

I'm sure that's the thought experiment.

Point is only, with our level of technology, how do you put so much time switching energy into one room? This topic is not possible.

Re: Thought experiment.

Try to have some suspension of disbelief Anatoly, what you're talking about is not the point of the topic.

Re: Thought experiment.

Who am I to make this decision for the entire universe?

I walk past this button, content that mere existence is better than the alternative.

Why would we have to ask Chris Lamb whether we should press the button?
