EE is temporarily down due to more hacking...

Hey, just wanted to fill everyone in on the current situation.

A user that has acquired the ability to modify database objects created an account with the name XENONETIX, and gave themselves administrator abilities. They then began spamming the in-game notifications and giving administrator abilities to others players. So to contain the issue, I had no choice but to temporarily take the game offline. We're investigating the options to attempt to increase system security, but unfortunately we're extremely limited by the design of PlayerIO, out multiplayer service provider.

We hope to get the game back up as soon as we can, and we apologize for the loss of progress some of you probably experienced in the game.

Unfortunately this is an internal PlayerIO security problem, so there isn't all that much we can do to solve the actual problem
We're basically relying on work-arounds to get around their security flaws at this point, so not a great situation to be in, but we do think we should be able to prevent the exploit.

thats not what i was referring to. maybe if you didn’t completely vanish people would probably stay away from actively hacking but seeing as you didn’t immediately do anything about the spambot linking to videos of people **** dying that probably gave others a few ideas

How quickly do you expect us to do things? There isn't some "stop the bots" switch we can flick that would solve the problem
It took us around three hours from being notified of the problem to 1. Ban all of the several hundred accounts that were being used, and 2. Design, implement, test, and upload an entirely new system to detect and prevent bot spammers, which I'd say was pretty quick.
