Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

[EEU] Breaking the silence

Imagine, the near future, eeu get released. Music packs are released,  every user is mildly upset that they can't upload their own tracks. But hey, its better than silence so why not?

Here's little jimmy //forums.everybodyedits.com/img/smilies/smile Jimmy is a music connoiseur and only listens to jazz-rap fusion. Jimmy registers for EEU and the first level he sees is "Techno Terrorism." Being the simple minded individual he is he joins the level and is unexpectedly sound blasted with generic techno music. But little Jimmy is a trooper, he endures through the painful 5 minute loop tainting his innocence and completes the hour long level. "Thank god thats over," he thinks to himself as he searches for a new level to play through. This time it's "Future Frenzy." Having higher hopes for this one, Jimmy warily presses the play button, only to be sound blasted again with the same generic techno loop. Jimmy screams, he can't take it anymore. Who in their right mind would want to listen to this in every level they play? Jimmy decisively presses the mute button, never to hear EEU's music ever again.

If we are unable to use custom music, it's inevitable that people will mute their game. Which brings me to my suggestion: Instead of music, we just have ambiance and looping sound effects. We could implement this two ways, zones or sound sources. (or hopefully both!) Zones would simply play the sound when you enter the zone, the sounds fade in of course. The second option, which I find more useful, is sound sources. These would work simply by setting the range and volume of the sound and placing the point where the sound originates from,  meaning the further away you are from the source, the more quiet the sound. With this, we could have machinery sounds coming from machines, beeping coming from robots, birds in trees, wind flowing through cracks, and much more creative uses. This way we can break the silence without being obnoxious to most of the userbase.

Re: [EEU] Breaking the silence

EEU should have a theme song that will once be as recognisable as a mario or sonic song. (Except there are more people that play 1 mario game in the same minute than that there are people who have even heard of everybody edits since 2010(Like probably 3 million more or smth))

Ok I didn't know about the ambience already being planned but sound sources are still a valid suggestion.

Wdym, the furthrer u are away from the source the quieter it is, also why not do something like make your music with music blocks and then use that music u made with music blocks in music zones
