I don't feel like a victim at all. Except maybe for the loss of time I've spent with this sinkhole of an argument. never thought i'd see people stick up for hitler here tho, and if it's descending that far, if we're throwing out definitions if it inconveniences an argument, if we're really considering hitler may have been a good guy somehow, then really this has become complete bonkers, and so I have nothing else left to say here.

Look, if you're discussing whether a bad opinion counts as an opinion, you have to have a bad opinion as an example. Discussing the legitimacy of an opinion is not discussing the morality of the opinion or personally backing the opinion. "All black people should die" is an opinion. "All white people should die" is an opinion. Discussing the legitimacy of either of those opinions does not mean I agree with either of them to start with. Now can we stop calling everyone mass murderers?

Validity versus truth - is this right? Surely "anyone arguing the validity of X believes X is morally correct" is a fallacy of some sort.

Hey y'all, can we quit the definition of the word opinion debate and focus more on using this topic to talk about LGBT+ ****?

I don't want to lock this topic because, for a while, we did have some fairly healthy discussion/debates. If I do lock it though, I'll unlock it about a week later. That should be enough time for everyone to get over themselves.

One curiosity I have with people who bring up religion's acceptance of nontraditional attraction, what exactly do they mean? I heard a sermon by a gay worship leader who was condemning his former lifestyle and "bad thoughts." So, Jesus loves you, but your actions are still reprehensible is what I get. Is that what we're out for?

Basically, things aren't always black and white. Everyone here, at least I'd hope so, would agree that murder is wrong. Religion has justified murdering people in certain circumstances, even in present day. It all depends on what your morals are. You can't accurately say someone's opinion is anymore wrong than your own.

my follow-up sentence actually tied into the question I was asking. I don't quite follow how your response helps answer the overall curiosity I have about the seemingly two-faced "yes gay is OK but really you're a sinner going to hell" message.

Hummerz I think an overlooked part of Christianity is that you can still go to heaven if you sin. It’s their belief that Jesus died for our sins and, as long as your faith is placed in him and you worship god, all can be forgiven. I think a core concept of Christianity is that they know people are not perfect and they know people will sin. You then seek forgiveness from God for those sins. That’s why people on death row are given religious access. It’s last minute repentance and forgiveness in an attempt to go to heaven. So yes, being gay is a sin. But that’s okay because, as long as you devote yourself to Christ, that sin can be forgiven.
