Even with my shortsightedness, and a custom theme which makes a lot of elements small, I don't use zoom here.

Hmm. as unpleasant as this is, there is a simple "fix" that seems to work pretty evenly without breaking things

Yeah, but only on my laptop where things are just a touch too small in general.

No, and in fact on other websites I tend to zoom out rather than zoom in as sometimes things just look far too big or there's not enough space. I don't use the forums on my phone but I don't usually zoom unless I seriously can't read something.

I have no problem reading text with the default zoom level(I still have the habit of zooming in a way that leaves only the post content visible without the user info part), but I need to zoom in when clicking links because they are usually close to other links. Especially the "New" link between Posted and Active
