Tulpa is a concept in mysticism and the paranormal of a being or object which is created through spiritual or mental powers. It was adapted by 20th century theosophists from Tibetan sprul-pa (Tibetan: སྤྲུལ་པ་, Wylie: sprulpa) which means "emanation" or "manifestation". Modern practitioners use the term to refer to a type of willed imaginary friend which practitioners consider to be sentient and relatively autonomous.

TBH, when i first saw that title i thought "Tulpa" was some kind of gross skin condition that would form on the crotch area. Or maybe some kind of enlarged tumor-like wart.

From what I can gather through Wikipedia, it's some ancient Buddhist concept where nearly enlightened people create bodies through which they can view the heavenly realm, and a few 4chan folks later took the concept to mean "justifiable imaginary friends".
