Beta's Back! NPCs, Sequels, & New Blocks!

Hi Everybody!

We've been working very hard on bringing you this epic update to the game!

hi.png?w=32 The biggest new feature we've incorporated is the brand new Non-Player Characters! These new action blocks can provide a little chat with smileys when you approach them. Interact with them when the little conversation bubble pops up by pressing "C".

Although everyone is able to converse with these peeps, they do require some testing, so they're only purchasable by players with Beta Access for the time being, and we'll be aiming to launch them for everyone within the next two weeks.

In addition to this, another new feature we're testing in Beta is the Campaign Unlock system, in which you have to complete a single or set of campaigns before unlocking an entirely new campaign. We're starting simple though, so try to unlock the Video Game 2 and (finally) the Puzzle Pack 2 campaigns!

This update isn't entirely for Beta players though, as we're also introducing the Garden Pack, initially created by AzurePudding (& Team Puddato) for the Design Contest last year. We love this new pack, and hope you will as well!

As many of you know, Gosha recently joined our ranks as our newest member of staff, and he's been working hard with ByteArray cleaning up things behind-the-scenes, which should result in a smoother playing experience for everyone!

Notable changes include:

  • If you are an owner of the world and you have unsaved changes in it, you'll get a confirm prompt upon leaving the world.

  • Auras now render in a different manner to reduce game size and increase consistency.

  • Lobby loading times have been improved.

  • Updated 'Controls' screen added to loading worlds, which now includes "C" to interact with NPCs, and "Enter" to chat.

  • Updated loading logo to be the Everybody Edits globe.

  • Added new tab in the Shop for NPCs.

  • Shop reworked to hide empty tabs if you've purchased everything in the tab.

  • Fixed bug where World Visibility in World Options wouldn't update correctly.

  • Fixed bug where Block-Picker wasn't selecting coins if they were collected.

  • Guests can now only join worlds if registered players are present.

  • Removed "/r" command (which was to respond to a PM, but now you can press Backspace for the same function when the chat box isn't showing).

  • Added "/title" command, which renames the world title, same as "/name".

  • Added "/getposition" command, which retrieves a player's position in x/y format, same as "/getpos".

  • Updated "/bgcolor" & "/bgcolour" commands to have the same functionality whether you include the hashtag (#) or not.

  • Updated "/visibility" command. Inputs include "all", "true", & "anyone" for true visibility; "none", "noone", "nobody", & "false" for false visibility; and "friends" for friends-only.

  • Updated "/mute" command to persist after leaving worlds. This now lasts until you logout or close the game.

  • Updated the Kongregate Everybody Edits logo.

In addition, the following commands have been updated, so that if you don't input the player, it applies to yourself (if you're the world owner or member of the world's crew):

  • /cleareffects (/ce) - Clears all effects from player

  • /giveedit (/gedit, /ge) - Gives Edit Mode to player

  • /removeedit (/redit, /re) - Removes Edit Mode from player

  • /givegod - Gives God Mode to player

  • /removegod - Removes God Mode from player

This Update was a few minutes late. My mother already FETCHED ME MY TENDIES AND NOW THEY ARE COLD. I was READY for this so called "UpDaTE" 15 minutes ago. WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THESE COLD TENDIES? I bought beta and all I get is these cold tendies. Tendies are no good COLD.

And I like the NPCs and how they're more than just decorations, but have their own speech function.  Really cool!

Wow. Just proves the most daring updates are the best. I think this is the first update in a long time that has added something really significant to the game and changed it where it needs to be changed. Good job!

^This, especially since you have to buy each NPC type seperately. Why couldn't we just get rid of all the (+1) blocks on the shop? Imo it's just limiting.

Some good news for the bot makers:
There is a new message type called "pm".

You can how send private messages using this.

Connection.Send("pm", playerID, "message");

It's also easier to parse received private messages:

Connection.OnMessage += (s,m) => {
    if(m.Type == "pm") {
        var playerID = m.GetInt(0);
        var message = m.GetString(1);
        var incoming = m.GetBool(2);
