What is a campaign?

I saw two guys talking about campaigns. What are they or what is it?

According to the Official Everybody Edits Wiki, Campaigns are series of worlds with a certain theme and similar difficulty.

According to Official Everybody Edits Wikipedia Aka EEWiki, you get rewards upon completing certain maps, the difficulty varies between different campaign packs, aswell as the rewards.
