Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

I've noticed that there are always a plethora of guests online here at the forums, and I believe these aren't actual people. Is there any reason for this, and what purpose do they serve?

The forums keep a record of people who are online. The two main things it remembers are an "identity" (IP address for guests or user ID for members) and a "last seen" time.
Every request that hits the forums either creates a new entry in the list or updates an existing "last seen" time. After 5 minutes, they're hidden from the online list. After 30, the entry is deleted.
