I can only guess that it had to do with how woots are processed:
a request to https://forums.everybodyedits.com/like. … pid=684508 where tid is thread_id and pid post_id. By sending a request to your own post_id you would had been able to woot your own post.
But now I believe it's patched.
Edit: You can test the behaviour. If you click the above link it would be the same as if you would press the woot button on my post.
