Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

can't rely on investigative roles. some games don't even have them, and if there were a set of games to not rely on "it's fine, some power role will save us" it'd be Devlin's randomized role madness games.

This game isn't randomized? Devlin said he'd make this game fair and balanced. That can't happen without investigative roles.
I believe Devlin randomized who GOT the roles, but the roles themselves weren't randomized.

it's better for tis to find stuff at night than random lynching.

right, but at the moment no one can know anything. If someone came forward and roleclaimed sheriff or something, that'd be useless because they can't know anything. It's also not wise to claim on the second or third day unless the town makes progress gradually. So in reality we have nothing to go on D1. A good choice D1 must be random. D2 is when we aren't going at random, but at the whims of the social abilities of town PRs and mafiosos. See the distinction?

Evilbunny wrote:

but then we would have people role claiming on the second day, which is not usually good. Most roles will wait longer than that to claim so we probably won't have any info tomorrow.

essentially what I said above, so cool

you're turning the issue back around. If the argument is generally tough to determine either way, then it's hard to write someone off for taking the unpopular opinion. (imo). Again, if it comes down to argument that no one fully understands, then you can't generalize the decision like that. I'm not a fan of abelysk either but let's be clear if we're voting them for their opinions on the matter or our inability to compromise on the matter. While both can be used in this setting, (after all, we can't expect perfect logic in this game) I feel that the latter is a more justifiable lynch reason than the former.

in all fairness a new user wouldn't know how confident they should be, right? if we find bandwagon-following to be suspicious then we ought to give some leeway to the opposite end of the spectrum: obstinately ignoring conventional wisdom...

to all: we're kinda sluggish but I guess this is D1. I deleted Oray's two posts so I meddled with the record in that regard.\

No lynch is not a free kill for maf.

well one limited view on the situation is this:

effectiveness of mafia kill: 1 (they have knowledge)
effectiveness of random lynch: (mafia count / total players) (guaranteed less than one)
effectiveness of "reasoned" lynch: (something less than one depending on how vocal everyone is)

so by that logic we'll always be chasing after the mafia. it's not a free kill for them, but it's a wasted chance (however sizeable) for us

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

I still think it's probably only worth actually lynching if we have some sort of lead or at least figure out what kinds of roles are in the game. No one knows what roles are in the game except their own and that'll probably remain the same until some investigative role figures something out.

I believe Devlin randomized who GOT the roles, but the roles themselves weren't randomized.

that seems accurate, since some of the roles do sorta depend on another role being in the game

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

I guess that you're right that I can't generalize which way Abelysk seems to be leaning for everyone. No matter what I or anyone else thinks though, it's still D1 and we're just all finger pointing.

Since there's 13 players, assuming this is a balanced game, I'm guessing (guessing) that the setup is something like 9 town, 1 nuetral, 3 maf.

Based on that guess, a d1 random lynch has a 4/13 chance to benefit town. Else we just lynch a townie and get no information from it.

The worse problem though, is that maf will be pushing for the random lynch. That's an extra 3 votes (again, based on my guess) to influence everyone else.

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

why is lynching a neutral role considered a win for the town? A few games back I was an indie role swapping role whose only win condition was to survive. I *think* I ended up winning along with the town.

Anyway, I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that lynching the neutral role is a good idea. They could be useful.

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

If you actually look at the role list, some neutral roles could be helpful to town. (though ofc it's unknown which neutral role(s) is/are in the game (theres also the rare chance theres more than one? doubt it though))

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

I mean some neutral roles can help town sure, but a lot of them either kill or are distracting (ie Joker, Jester, Executor).
If anything by getting the neutral town knows there's no neutral to distract them
Although it still shouldn't be the main focus obvi

What if we lynch a TI role or another important town role. We can't have that happen especially if we end up lynching somebody that reveals themselves as an important role.

Then why lynch D1? What if we lynch/reveal a jailor or TI? Maf would target them first.

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

Or we have a bit of luck and kill one of the maffs what would be a great start.
But then again, accidentally killing a town investigator... That would be quite a big step back, I dont think it's worth the risk.

Re: Mafia 14 [Mafia + Processor win!]

Since nobody has anything to say apparently, I think it's best if we all just vote for a person or for nolynch.

If we are going to pick somebody I suggest Abelysk just because he's said he doesn't think it is safe to lynch anybody right now and will probably be less likely to vote on future days. The town needs lynches to win and if he isn't going to help with his vote then he doesn't have much value.

@Evilbunny do you actually think Abelysk is scum, or are you saying lynching an unhelpful townie is better trying than random lynching?

Abelysk isn't being particularly helpful by advocating for a nolynch, but that doesn't seem like scum to me, just inexperience.

well do you expect to see scum tells this early? Consider this another way: everyone appears equally scummish or not. How then do you pick? Well, consider whatever actions they need to take as a town player.

We like people to post and we like people to vote. That's why we get into these debates about going after the quiet people or going after the useless people. If someone suggests they won't be fulfilling their role like this then well

Gods must sleep and so must devils. If someone is lynched during that time then do not post please! I will try to wake up as soon as possible tomorrow in order to post any necessary responses.
