I think the general trend is away from that. We recently made Forum Games visible to guests again. Ignoring the hot topic that is your excessive affinity for forum games, the idea that we aren't overtly concerning ourselves with looking tidy is still evident.

tl;dr: not much payoff. Guests need to see things too

This would at least slightly make sense if locks only existed when appropriate and were not used as "ok I'm op and i don't feel like letting people say more because (I got what I wanted already | people disagree with me)"
